1999-056RESOLUTION NO. 99-56 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 6 SECTION 1B OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK TO INCLUDE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY AS AN OFFICIAL CITY HOLIDAY. WHEREAS, City of Southlake (the "City") extends nine (9) paid holidays to every regular employee; and WHEREAS, City holidays currently include: New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day; and WHEREAS, On the third Monday of January the Nation recognizes Dr. King's fight for freedom, equality, and dignity of all races and people and the message of change through nonviolence; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes contributions that Dr. King made during his life for all races and all people, now THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, THAT: Section 1: The City include Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as an official holiday. Section 2: That the City of Southlake hereby amends Chapter 6 Section 1B of the Employee Handbook as follows: B. The following official holidays will be observed: 1. New Years Day (January 1) 2. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (third Monday in January) 3. Good Friday (Friday before Easter) 4. Memorial Day (Last Monday in May) 5. Independence Day (July 4) 6. Labor Day (first Monday in September) 7. Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November) 8. Day after Thanksgiving (fourth Friday in November) 9. Christmas Eve (December 24); and 10. Christmas Day (December 25). RESOLUTION NO. 99-56 Page 2. Section 3: This resolution shall become effective after its passage and adoption by the City Council.
