A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE'S
SUBMITTAL OF A REQUEST FOR APPROVAL AND FUNDING FOR
THE WIDENING OF THE EXISTING STATE HIGHWAY 121 BRIDGE
AT BASS PRO DRIVE (FORMERLY BETHEL ROAD) IN TARRANT
COUNTY, TEXAS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine is widening the existing two-lane Bass Pro Drive
formerly Bethel Road) to a four -lane divided roadway from State Highway 26 east to the City
Limit of Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas (for a total length of 3,450 feet) which includes
1,135 feet for the bridge section and approaches; and
WHEREAS, the existing State Highway 121/Bass Pro Drive bridge is a two-lane
bridge structure approximately 400 feet in length; and
WHEREAS, the total cost for the improvements is $4,777,660 which includes right of
way; roadway, approach, and bridge design and construction; traffic signal installation
engineering services, testing, and inspections; and pavement striping, markings, utility
relocation, drainage, and landscaping; and
WHEREAS, the improvements to Bass Pro Drive will offer local and regional mobility
benefits by providing both direct and alternative access to the recreational area of Grapevine
Lake, the Historic Main Street Area in Grapevine, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport via
International Parkway, Farm -to -Market Road 2499 into Denton County and the cities of
Flower Mound and Highland Village, the densely developed office/warehouse and distribution
centers within the City of Coppell, and the Grapevine Mills Mall Area; and
WHEREAS, the proposed State Highway 121 bridge improvement project in
combination with the City of Grapevine's Bass Pro Drive widening project, will complete the
last link in the development of a direct parallel alternative route to the heavily congested State
Highway 114/State Highway 121 Corridor adjacent to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
which provides direct access not only to State Highway 121 and State Highway 114, but also
State Highway 360, Interstate Highway 635, Farm -to -Market Road 2499, State Highway 26
and International Parkway serving Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; and

WHEREAS, the State Highway 114, State Highway 121, State Highway 635, State
Highway 26, and Farm -to -Market Road 2499 corridors are attracting increased development
activity within all adjacent communities; and
WHEREAS, adequate roadway systems are critical to all area counties, municipalities,
and businesses in order to accommodate traffic demand and to provide safe, efficient, and
environmentally sensitive transportation systems;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That the City Council of the City of Southlake hereby supports the City of Grapevine's
request to the Texas Transportation Commission for consideration of/and approval for funding
of the widening of State Highway 121/13ass Pro Drive bridge section at an estimated cost of
2,164,900, provided all Federal and State requirements are adhered to and actual construction
can commence within the FY 98-99.
SECTION 2.
That this resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.
