CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS
RESOLUTION 88-96
A RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF TEXAS TO
ACCEPT ITS PRISONERS PRESENTLY HOUSED IN
TARRANT COUNTY JAIL INTO THE TEXAS DEPART-
MENT OF CORRECTIONS.
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the State Government
to house convicted felons; and,
WHEREAS, currently, there are over six hundred (600) con-
victed felons temporarily housed in Tarrant County Jail
awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Corrections;
and,
WHEREAS, the State has failed to meet its responsibility to
accept said felons, which has placed a heavy financial
burden on Tarrant County to provide jail facilities for the
State's prisoners and recently necessitated the temporary
closing of Tarrant County Jail due to severe overcrowding;
and,
WHEREAS, the City of Southlake Police Department, as well
as the citizens of Southlake, are directly affected by
overload of inmates at the Tarrant County Jail through the
financial tax burden and public safety; now,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, THAT.
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Southlake,
Texas, urges the State of Texas to take immediate measures
to transfer its prisoners held in Tarrant County Jail into
the Texas Department of Corrections.
Section 2. Further, the City of Southlake urges the State
of Texas to reimburse Tarrant County for the expenses incurred
for housing convicted felons in its jail facilities.
