TARRANT COUNTY CRIMINAL JUSTICE
BOND ISSUE
WHEREAS, Tarrant County is one of the fastest growing areas of
the United States; and
WHEREAS, Tarrant County's rapid growth has put tremendous
pressure on all levels of public services; and
WHEREAS, one of the areas most affected by Tarrant County's rapid
growth is the County's criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, all levels of government must cooperate if Tarrant
County is to meet the challenge of rising crime; and
WHEREAS, county government plays a particularly important role in
the criminal justice system and is responsible for prosecuting
those who are charged with crimes, administering the courts in
which they are tried, and operating the jail among other
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure that Tarrant County has adequate
court, criminal justice support and jail. space to ensure smooth
operation of the County's criminal justice system, the County
must act now; and
WHEREAS, a comprehensive law -and -order bond issue is the best and
most economical approach to funding Tarrant County's needed
criminal justice facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Commissioners' Court of Tarrant County has called an
election for January 25, 1986, which will include four separate
propositions for 1) construction of a new jail facility, a new
courts building, and a new combined crime lab/medical examiner
facility, along with expanded space for prosecutors and an
expansion of the County's minimum security jail; 2) renovation of.
the Civil Courts Building; 3) construction of a new building to
house Children's Protective Services and; 4) construction of an
800 car downtown parking garage; and
WHEREAS, the estimated cost for the entire bond package is $64.05
million and will require no more than a 2.1 increase in the
county tax rate;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Southlake, do hereby endorse the
comprehensive law -and -order bond issue to be placed before the
voters of Tarrant County on January 25, 1986;
