NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN in accordance with the order of the Office of the Governor
issued March 16, 2020, the Community Engagement Committee will conduct this meeting
both in-person and virtually in order to advance the public health goal of limiting face-to-face
meetings (also called "social distancing") to slow the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
This Notice and Meeting Agenda, are posted online at

The public will be permitted to offer public comments as provided by the agenda and as
permitted by the presiding officer during the meeting via http://bit.ly/030121 CEC hosted
through Webex.
A recording of this meeting will be made and will be available to the public in accordance with

1. Call to order. Meeting called to order at 6:03 by Sherry Berman, Chair.
2. Approve February 1, 2021 CEC meeting minutes. Vandana made a motion to
approve the minutes as written. Shayne provided a second. Approved (4-0). Vamsi
arrived after the vote.
3. Discussion:
a. May 2021 Election Candidate Forums. Jerod provided the dates for the
upcoming forums which are April 7 for the City of Southlake City Council
Meeting Minutes: Community Engagement Committee Meeting— March 1st, 2021

Candidate Forum, and April 12 for the Carroll ISD Board of Trustees
Candidate Forum. For the City of Southlake election, there are six (6) total
candidates running for three (3) positions, and for the Carroll ISD election
there are four (4) total candidates running for two (2) positions. Jerod stated
that the City sent notes to Southlake Executive Forum and the Southlake
Foundation with the above dates so that they can adjust dates for their own
candidate forums.
b. CEC Questions for Candidate Forums. The Committee discussed the
questions that could be asked and recommended using CEC questions,
resident questions, and then other questions. The Committee talked about
time allowed and the number of candidates. The Committee discussed if we
should ask the names of citizens asking the question? No names will be on
the form and names will not be read. Jerod mentioned the City is still working
on finding a moderator and is working on some promotional material. There
could be candidates dropping out. Communication will be sent out mid next
week to give residents an opportunity to ask questions.
Jerod shared a screen with questions that CEC members entered. The
Committee discussed how to combine questions that are similar and
prioritization. It was decided that Jerod will send a priority survey for both City
Council questions and CISD questions and the questions will be created
based on the survey results.
Discussed that an additional meeting was needed prior to the originally
planned April 5th CEC meeting. A new date of March 29th was proposed and
agreed upon.
