Dear City Council Member:
It is a pleasure to present you with information concerning the
work of the Southlake Economic Development Council. Some of the
information will bring you up-to-date since the SEDC was formed,
and there is also information concerning future project ideas.
Brad Bradley, and last year's council, did an excellent job of
getting things started. A lot of work went into getting the
SEDC formed and moving forward. Once the consultant's report
was received it was apparent that the cost to market Southlake
alone would be prohibitive. Thus, the concept of the Metroport
Cities Partnership came out of the SEDC sessions. The biggest
part of 1988 was then spent working to get Metroport started
and operational. An update on Metroport is included in a later
section of this report.
Moving into 1989 the SEDC recognized there was a great deal of
ground work necessary in compiling information to make avail-
able to prospects. Therefore, our goals for 1989 were estab-
lished to accomplish some of the things we would like to have
completed in 1988.
Economic development is not something you decide to do and
overnight produce overwhelming results. Done correctly it
takes tine to complete studies, compile data, and target pros-
pects. The past few months have been spent getting properly
prepared to market our City. We are now close to being in that
position.
The next few years are going to be extremely important for our.
City as we begin to develope. It is the feeling of the SEDC
that we have the best possible leadership in place in the City
to address the very important issues with which we will be
confronted.
