RE:ZA20-0063 (Special Use Permit for a Solar Energy System)
As owners of the adjacent property located at 1911 Water Lily Drive, my wife and I would like to share our
opposition to the installation of solar panels at 1909 Water Lily Drive in the Myers Meadow subdivision.
Our reasons for doing so are as follows:
• Solar panels are unsightly and the enjoyment of our backyard is lessened by having them in our direct
sight line;
• We believe that our property value would be reduced due to the adjacent nature of our home;
• Contrary to the application statement regarding no loss of trees, a large, mature tree was removed
very recently (within the last 6 weeks) presumably because it shaded part of the roof.
However, if the city disagrees with our position, I respectfully ask the Council to require that the applicant do
the following before granting a permit:
• Remove (or relocate) the panels on the west roof(abutting the driveway) as they are much more
visible from the street and our backyard;
• Perform a study to confirm that adjacent properties (mine included) will not be impacted by glare or
reflection as a result of panel installation;
• Ensure that all conduit and wiring is routed within the structure to avoid further degradation of the
exterior appearance.
Thank you,
Ian and Emily Setford
