1, That a literal enforcement of the sign regulation Will create an unnecessary hardship r practical
difficulty on the applicant.
Tom Thumb is wanting to add an additional wall sign to advertise their Drive Up& Go service that'
allows customers to order groceries online and have them brought to their car. During the current
G J -1 9'pandemic,this is an essential service for customers. Restricting Tom Thumb from
adding this additional sin would`greatly diminish awareness for their Drive`Up&Go service.
. That the situation causing the unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty is unique to the affected
property and is not self imposed.
Asa grocery store,Tom Thumb has a responsibility to provide customers t a safe way to get
their groceries during the I -19 pandemic.This hardship is of no fault of Tom Thumb's, and '
their situation is unique in that thetypical' max of one wall sign per business will limit their
business via the` rive Up&Go service,'and this would not happen it non grocery businesses.
3. That the variance will not injure and will be wholly compatible with the use and permitted
development of adjacent properties.
Theadditional wall sin will be compatible with surrounding properties, and would not
impede their ability to conduct business in any way.To Thumb already has one other
additional `all sin for their pharmacy,, as well as for the Starbucks coffee shop within
the store.
. That the variance will be In harmony with the spirit and purpose of the`si ordinance.
The additional all sin will be in harmony withte spirit and purpose of the sign
ordinance, as it is serving to advertise a necessary serivce provided by To
Thumb,` Tom Thumb also has similar signage of other locations across Texas, so
this would be consistent with their branding.
