Much of the City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Minutes of the September 23, 2020 Southlake Library Board Meeting Page 2 of 3 stats is due to lack of library in person programming. Burr asked with traffic how does the library account number of people who come visit by car (curbside). Pfledderer explained there is no way to count that and we have not been counting curbside visitors due to it being up to front line staff and it's too much to keep up with at the desk. Burr commented that traffic numbers are understated and Pfledderer confirmed. Programming is being counted thru kits and virtual programming. Volunteers are down 7%. Now that kids are back in school, kids are needing volunteer hours and hours have been increased to include Saturdays. ILL is down 20% but picking up. Notaries down 35%. Pfledderer remarked comparatively to other libraries in the State, we are doing very well. Numbers will go up as activities resume. Pfledderer expressed desire for in person story time programs to resume soon while still protecting immune compromised staff. She suggested that perhaps those programs would be limited in size and presented by herself and the Youth Librarian, Stacy Wells. Pfledderer expressed wanting to demonstrate safety by having administrative staff take on the burden/health risk of in person programming first before hourly staff. Pfledderer will meet with HR Director to discuss socially distanced story time resuming in November. Theaker commented Governor Abbott has opened us up to 75% occupancy. Subedi commented that younger kids have had less contracted cases at the elementary schools. 4. DISCUSSION A. UPCOMING ACTIVITIES Pfledderer shared list of Upcoming Activities Slide which included Take Home Activities for Adults/Teens and Kids. The kits have been very well received by the public. Pfledderer shared the dates the kits will roll out. Every week in December will have a new kit. Other Activities include partnering with Recreation Haunted Trail at Bicentennial Park or perhaps Bob Jones Park (Pfledderer will confirm location and report back to Board), Painted Pumpkin Faire, Story Trail and Activity Walk, NalloWriMo Write -In (Pfledderer shared she met with Southlake Style to discuss NalloWriMo), Town Square Scavenger Hunt, Mrs. Claus Story Time in December, Pop- up Activities for in -Library visitors (ex: carolers, etc). Virtual Events: Halloween role play, Southlake On the Go, Cooking, Fairy Tale, Campfire Stories, Holiday Specials, Creepy Crawlers with Critterman. Trunk or Treat with DPS. Theaker commented on how creative the staff is. 5. NEW BUSINESS Burr asked if the Board has any New Business items to discuss. Pfledderer shared next meeting will be October 28, 2020 and that Octoberfest will not be happening this year and the Library will be open. City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Minutes of the September 23, 2020 Southlake Library Board Meeting Page 3 of 3 Theaker asked about BrainFuse and if there were numbers available yet on how it was being used. Pfledderer shared that it is too new to have feedback number on volume yet, but that it has been well received. Once there are stats, Pfledderer will report back about it at next Board Meeting. Pfledderer shared that she and Jennifer Tucker had a discussion about Press Reader as an option to replace Flipster. Pfledderer explained pricing and performance issues with different options and necessity of having digital magazine services. Press Reader has option of 7,000 titles for $5000. Some of the main concerns with Press Reader is that the most desired titles are not available. After deliberation, Tucker and Pfledderer have decided to enhance Flipster service by acquiring more magazine titles, increasing to 50 titles, perhaps more. Eaton provided input that she liked the idea of ease of use for public. Board provided feedback that they feel Tucker and Pfledderer made a good decision to enhance service. 6.
