Access to the Library is one of the biggest considerations. Looking for solutions and research, remote lockers is one that the Library is considering and reviewing proposals. The lockers would be located outside the Library inside the Town Hall so that customers would be able to access reserved items using an access code for the locker. Using a heat map of users of the Library, there is a large population in Timarron subdivision. Pfledderer has also reached out to the president of their HOA to inquire if they would be interested in having a remote library locker location. A proposal was made to the City Manager regarding this initiative and positive feedback was received. It will be approximately a $26,000 endeavor, paid for under the Cares Grant. Pledderer has met with the HOA President and their Board has been approved the project, but is now just waiting for funding before moving forward with the remote Timarron lockers. After receiving funding, the installation should occur in this coming year. The Town Hall locker location may not be able to happen because of funding so Timarron is higher priority location as there is a work around at Town Hall by offering curbside delivery. The Library is offering a new online tutoring service called BrainFuse that will launch Sept. 1, 2020. It is an easy to use platform for all ages with skilled tutors in all subjects. This is a live one-on-one tutoring service and will be available 2-10 p.m. daily. The Library has a 13 month contract and it is being paid for out of the $11,000 reimbursement which the Library received. A question was asked by if hours were unlimited and Pfledderer explained there is no limit for customer, but that time frame of service is limited to 2-10 p.m. Service is available to anyone with a Southlake Library card. Deputy Director Pfledderer unveiled remodeling of the youth area to create more room and decision was made to move study carrels to the adult area to create room for shelving along back wall for youth book collection and a seating area for tweens. The shelving system that housed award winners and holidays has been removed and nonfiction and biography will be housed on the back wall. A conversation with Stacy Black and Pfledderer was had regarding lack of space in our current location and need for new library and that the new library has been pushed back. There is a lack of program space for Library. A question to Black was raised regarding what is the long term plan on development plans for new Library, especially with impact of COVID. Black suggested that the Library could use the activity center located at Parkwood, where the senior activity center was previously located. The Library would like to redo flooring and kitchen area to accommodate Library needs and make it more comfortable. There is $40,000 set aside for that project and it will be a priority in the new year. Guests need space to be comfortable in so that when the Library has programs, there is a favorable impression on comfort and access. Lori Burr raised question about building funds that had been set aside and are being used. Pfledderer was not aware if the money is viable for the renovation but would follow up on whether those funds could be used for remodeling project. Pfledderer asked Library Board for their feedback and ideas. Beth Darr stated she wondered if having a child's area would be helpful in the activity center and options about requiring parents to be on site. Answering that question, Pfledderer said size would have to be considered as well as activity occurring and that it would depend on employee/participant ration. Darr asked if it would be an option to have study rooms moved to another location to create City of Southlake Values: Integrity♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Minutes of the August 26, 2020 Southlake Library Board Meeting Page 5 of 5 anything regarding that in the last two city council meetings, but that with COVID that has perhaps been delayed. 6.
