BookFLIX. The Cloud Digital Library is up 19% for the year and the month. Traffic is
down, with anomaly months in June, July and August, so only down 8%. Digital traffic
was up 15% but down for the year, due to BookFLIX and the reduced usage. City Staff
talked with Carroll ISD teachers and school Librarians to see if there was a decline in
usage, but they are still interested in it, so the Library will continue offering it. BookFLIX
is down 27% for the year. Flipster is even. City Staff discontinued Creativebug after
having it for six months and doing away with niche things and low demands in the
Library. Computer usage is the same for the year. Study room use has increased. Adult
programming is down 6% for the year. Adult programming hasn't been highest priority.
Youth is up 9% and programming up 12%, likely due to grant. Volunteer hours are up
this year. Interlibrary loans are up, 83 requests for the month. Ending the year higher
than in the past. A comment was made about how Libraries are turning into community
centers, helping people who aren't native online learners and providing access to WiFi.
One of the biggest changes in the Library is the number of people who are coming in
and working in the Library. Tutoring, study groups and homeowner associations are
using the study rooms. A question was asked about the average age of the volunteers.
The range is between 13-16 years old. There are a handful of adult volunteers, but
mostly teens due to school requirements and community service hours. The Library is
fine free as of October 1, 2019, as approved by City Council in September. Patrons are
asked to keep their accounts in good standing, not in overdue status, in order to check
out materials. Polaris upgrade was last week and is now mobile responsive, a better
interface and easier to search. Tammie Suski is the new Administrative Secretary.
There are some reference shelves being moved in response to our demand of study
and workspace. More tables, more niches, more chairs to create a private in public
workspace experience. Shelving is being donated to Cleburne Public Library. New
drive -up book return installed at Champion's Club by the end of this month. It will be the
same model as the one by Tyler's parking garage.
4. DISCUSSION
A. UPCOMING PROJECTS
City Librarian Pfledderer provided the Library Board with 2020 meeting dates. The
bylaws say that anyone that's had three consecutive absences that were unexcused
needs to be reported to the City Council. City Librarian Pfledderer asked Board
Members if Wednesday night was a good night to still meet or if they wanted to reduce
the number of meetings, as bylaws state Board Members meet regularly, not monthly.
Current Board Members are willing to wait for future Board Members and find out their
interest. It was discussed that a Board Member has to reapply when their term is
expiring. City Librarian Pfledderer will check to see if there is notification from the City
Secretary's Office about term expirations. The question was asked about making the
number of Board Members more but that increases the number of people to meet
quorum. City Council does ask to see attendance records. Board Members want to
keep monthly meetings with the months of June and July off.

There was a Carillon meeting at the last City Council meeting. Cooper & Stebbins, the
developer of Town Square, is interested in keeping the Library in Town Square. A
question was asked if branches of the Library have been considered. The Town Square
proposed location would be a half -acre and a two-story Library. The City is concerned
about having a two-story Library due to staffing. It was asked where the bulk of
circulation comes from. It was answered by City Librarian Pfledderer as families with
small children.
5. LIBRARY & CULTURE FOUNDATION UPDATE
No new business.
6. NEW BUSINESS
Board members would like to not close off the opportunity for keeping the Library in
Town Square. Members would also like discuss involvement with the Census since it
will be mostly online. The public will need a place to come and ask for help. Members
would like to consider computer stations or an area within the Library for Census takers.
CARS (Call A Ride Southlake) or other ride share was discussed to help individuals that
may have trouble getting to the Library on their own. It was also discussed to have
space at the Marq or Senior Center.
7. PUBLIC FORUM
City Librarian Pfledderer opened the public forum at 6:41 p.m. and asked for anyone
wishing to speak to come forward. There being no questions, the public forum was
closed at 6:41 p.m.
8. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned by Library Board Member Katherine Bennett at 7:00 p.m.
