down but, for the year, visitors have increased 23%, so far. Programs increased
because the Lunar New Year event fell in February this year versus March of 2018.
Computer use and study room use is flat but there is still an increasing demand for
Interlibrary Loans, notary request and proctoring.
4. DISCUSSION
A. UPCOMING PROJECTS
City Librarian Pfledderer discussed projects scheduled for the rest of the fiscal year.
The Library is entering into a period of training for the staff. Several fulltime staff
members will take a Crucial Conversations training course over the next 10 weeks.
Three librarians will attend the Texas Library Conference in April and several staff will
have specialized training in areas such as communication and technology. The Library's
administrative offices are scheduled to move the week of April 22, 2019. May starts the
beginning of the busy period for the Library and staff is very focused on customer
service and programs from May through August. This includes programs for summer,
special grant programs, art programming and special events like Stars and Stripes or
Easter in the Park, which the Library supports.
The City of Southlake webpages are slated for a re -skin of the design in the 4th quarter
of the fiscal year. The Library pages will be recreated in the new format. The Library's
catalog system is also several versions behind in upgrades, due to the need for a server
upgrade. It is hopeful that the upgrade can take place in the 4th quarter, now that
Champion's Club has opened. This is also the period of budget and workplan
development for fiscal year 2020. The Library leadership will meet this week for a
SWOT analysis and workplan strategy session. The budget is expected to be flat in
2020, due to changes at the State government level regarding property tax growth caps.
5. LIBRARY & CULTURE FOUNDATION UPDATE
Lori Burr and Curtis Green met with APEX Arts League Chair, Terri Messing. The
overall impression was that APEX may have a lot of existing demands to limit
membership support but they are interested in taking an advisory role for the
Foundation. Board members would like to meet with the officers of the Friends of
Southlake Library to determine if a Foundation could be formed under their
organizational structure. City Librarian Pfledderer agreed to provide contact information
for those officers. Other possible Foundation members were discussed.
8. NEW BUSINESS
