FORUM SUMMARY: Details: The City of Southlake is proposing the adoption of the Health & Wellness Master Plan, an element of the Southlake 2035 Comprehensive Plan. Purpose of the presentation is to give a high-level overview of the development process, the plan and draft recommendations and the next steps in the process. A Health & Wellness Master Plan Committee was appointed by City Council in June 2018. Plan development took place with the committee between August 2018 and April 2019. The committee held six (6) meetings to develop the plan. A draft copy of the Health & Wellness Master Plan is available online. • 36 draft H&W Recommendations • 4 plan topic areas: Built & Natural Environment, Mental & Physical Health, Age-Friendly Community and Community Resiliency • Goal: encourage and promote existing programs and policies Built & Natural Environment section focuses on: • Building design • Walkability/Accessibility • Intelligent Transportation • Waste Mitigation • Parking • Park Design/Open Space • Vector Control Mental & Physical Health section focuses on: • Physical Activity/Health • Obesity • Emotional/Mental Health • Public Health • Partnerships • Resources ***City does not have public health department Age-Friendly Community section focuses on: • Safety • Family Quarters • Age-Friendly Amenities • Public Spaces • Social Activities • Collaborative Spaces Community Resiliency section focuses on: • Possible Hazards • Preparedness • Staying Informed • Response/Recovery • Built Environment and Life Safety • Flooding Next Steps: Plan Adoption Process • SPIN: May 14, 2019 • P&Z: May 23, 2019 • City Council 1st Reading: June 4, 2019 • City Council 2nd Reading & Public Hearing: June 18, 2019 Presentation: Questions and Concerns: 1. Consider options or opportunities for “right-sizing”. Senior population would like to ensure that something is in place for people to participate in independent living without having to live in a large house that has a lot of upkeep.
