Property Situation: Citywide
Details: Overview of proposed ordinances adopting the 2018 International Building, residential,
Fire, Fuel, Gas, Plumbing, Mechanical, Swimming Pool and Spa, Energy, Existing Building and
Property Maintenance Codes regulating new and existing structures in Southlake, Texas as
recommended by the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
The Building Board of Appeals have approved the recommendation of the proposed adoption of
the proposed ordinances.

Questions and Concerns:
1. Will these codes apply to existing homes? No. These are for new homes and will
apply only to renovations and additions.
2. Can you identify which codes could apply? For residential: electrical and any
addition that would create a home with over 6,000 square feet, the house would
need to be retrofitted with a fire sprinkler system.
3. Is IBC (non-residential structures) being adopted with this ordinance and the
NCTCOG recommendations? Yes. It includes more occupancy calculations and
items of clarification.
