Action
Requested: Ordinance No. 1206, 1st Reading, Approve a Speed Limit
Ordinance Amending Chapter 18, Section 18 -79 of the Southlake
City Code establishing a new speed limit on a portion of North
White Chapel Boulevard
Background
Information: Construction is currently underway for the repairs of North W hite
Chapel Boulevard at the Kirkwood Branch crossing. This
construction project is addressing emergency repairs to the
roadway and culvert crossing damage caused by the heavy rainfall
events of October 2018.
The City’s design consultant for this project analyzed the terrain
and geometric layout of North White Chapel Boulevard near the
Kirkwood Branch crossing. The consultant has recommended a
posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour based upon accepted
engineering standards for roadway design.
Staff recommends a speed limit of 30 miles per hour on North
White Chapel Boulevard from Drum Lane to Wingate Lane. The
Police Department concurs with this staff recommendation.
Financial
Considerations: The costs of the posting of the new speed limit is covered in the
culvert crossing repair contract.
Strategic Link: The ordinance establishing a new speed limit on this portion of
North White Chapel Boulevard links to the City’s strategy map
relative to the focus areas of Safety and Security and Mobility. The
specific corporate objective that is met by this ordinance is to
