2018-12-10 SAC Minutes for Joint Work Session with City CouncilCITY OF SOUTHLAKE TEXAS JOINT WORKSESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL MINUTES DECEMBER 10, 2018 LOCATION: The Marq, 285 Shady Oaks Drive, Southlake, Texas 76092 CITY COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Laura Hill, Mayor Pro Tem Randy Williamson, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Shawn McCaskill, and Councilmembers Chad Patton ABSENT: Councilman John Huffman RECUSED: Councilman Shahid Shafi SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL PRESENT: Chair Leslie Bartlett, Vice Chair Miriam Murray, and Members Mimi Tran, Jesika Cook, Terri Messing, Tamara McMillan, and Beatriz Terrazas ABSENT: Heather Engelhardt STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Shana Yelverton, Assistant City Manager Ben Thatcher, Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development & Tourism Alison Orlowski, Assistant to the City Manager Lauren LaNeave, Deputy Director of Marketing and Communications Pilar Schank, Chief Financial Officer Sharen Jackson, Director of Community Services Chris Tribble, Assistant to the Director of Community Services Cassie Tucker, Senior Director of Planning and Development Services Ken Baker, and Deputy City Secretary Amy Shelley. 1. CALL TO ORDER & WELCOME The worksession was called to order by Mayor Laura Hill at 6:09pm. Mayor Hill welcomed the Council, members of the Boards, and staff. She presented the Mayor's Alliance for Unity and Culture video as featured on the City's website. 2. SOUTHLAKE PUBLIC ART & COMMUNITY CULTURE 2A. ARTS MASTER PLAN OVERVIEW 2B. KEY POLICY ISSUES Director of Community Services Chris Tribble presented Item 2 (2A - 2B) and answered �-- questions regarding the Arts Master Plan and Key Policy issues. Mayor Hill stated art JOINT CITY COUNCIL & BOARDS MEETING MINUTES, DECEMBER 10, 2018 Page 1 of 2 needs to become a way to educate the community about Southlake, a way in which to marry the past with the current/future. Art members stated they are researching more diverse art. -- 3. CURRENT PROJECTS Director of Community Services Chris Tribble presented Item 3 and answered questions regarding current projects, and discussion occurred relative to the Library project, performing art space, and sculptures and interactive pieces placed strategically and thoughtfully throughout the City. 4. STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS 4A. BUSINESS COMMUNITY 4B. ARTS COMMUNITY 4C. HISTORICAL SOCIETY 4D. OTHERS Director of Community Services Chris Tribble presented Item 4 (4A — 4D) and answered questions regarding Strategic Partnerships. Mayor Hill stated this is the time to be a positive influence with opportunities for change. 5. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Hill adjourned the worksession at 7:20pm.
