EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Details
The City of Southlake is proposing revisions to the Solid Waste Ordinance No. 337 to
include a ban on bagging and curbside disposal of grass clippings.
QUESTIONS DISCUSSION
QUESTION: Why not just raise the rates?
RESPONSE: That is an option that City Council can choose.
COMMENT: I agree; just raise the rates. Southlake is economically set to pay
higher rates if necessary. We do not want to drive to Arlington to
dispose of grass clippings.
COMMENT: The government just keeps getting bigger when you add things like
this and the needs of the people get ignored. This proposal is absurd.
The quality of life is high in Southlake. Eco sensitive people already
re- cycle.
QUESTION: So this doesn't apply to leaves?
RESPONSE: Right.
QUESTION: How can you differentiate trash?
RESPONSE: Enforcement is tricky, especially with the black trash bags. It comes
down to voluntary compliance.
QUESTION: How about a training program for the citizens?
RESPONSE: Absolutely. Keep Southlake Beautiful has programs; if this is passed,
communication and education will be enhanced.
COMMENT: Publicize the Crud Cruiser!
QUESTION: The city leaf pick up was great. Can you extend it next time?
RESPONSE: We would love to do it; it is a budgetary consideration.
QUESTION: What is the process from here?
RESPONSE: We anticipate bringing this to City Council in April. You will have an
opportunity to speak at the second reading public hearing.
COMMENT: I agree that mulch does make the grass greener and that re- cycling is
a good idea but if you ban people from curbside pick -up, some won't
dispose properly and you may find illegal dumping.
