FORUM SUMMARY:
Property Situation: Citywide
Details: City of Southlake is proposing the adoption of the Southlake 2035 Youth Master Plan,
an element of the Southlake 2035 Comprehensive Plan including SYAC/SKIL/ CEC.
City Council appointed the Southlake Youth Action Commission (SYAC) to develop this plan
element with staff. In addition, staff worked with the Southlake Kids Interested in Leadership
SKIL) (1 meeting), and the Community Engagement Committee (3 meetings) to receive input
on the plan. Meetings were held beginning in October 2017 with the Southlake Youth Action
Commission (SYAC) holding five (5) total meetings where this plan was discussed. SYAC
recommended approval of the Plan at their March 21, 2018 meeting. SYAC and SKIL each
participated in tabletop activities and completed surveys to provide valuable information to staff
about the youth perspective. The next steps are to discuss recommendations, present to the
Planning and Zoning Commission in August 2018 and to the City Council for 1st and 2nd
readings in August and September 2018.
Presentation:
Questions and Concerns:
1. Can you communicate what SYAC is? It is comprised of 9th and 10th grade youth
in Southlake as a youth advisory committee.
2. What is the Planning and Zoning Commission’s involvement in this plan? The
Commission does review and give feedback on the Southlake 2035 elements.
