1992-05-27SOUTHLAKE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING May 27, 1992 LOCATION: Dal -Den Corp. Roanoke, TX 76262 MEMBERS PRESENT: Richard Wilhelm, David Bergman, Bethann Scratchard, Cheryl Woolsey, David Baltimore, Susan Evans, Richard Kuhlman, Greg Last(City Staff), Donna Higgins (Executive Director), Sandy Baber(Staff) MEMBERS ABSENT: John Drews, Betty Springer I. CALL TO ORDER Rick Wilhelm, Chairman, called the meeting to order and noted that a quorum was present. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING Motion was made by Susan Evans and seconded by Cheryl Woolsey. III. TREASURER'S REPORT Donna Higgins explained the Budget report reflected the past two months, instead of just one month. The treasurer's report was motioned by David Bergman and seconded by Cheryl Woolsey. IV. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Donna Higgins reported on the upcoming Metroport project. This project is a Texas display in the Frankfurt, Germany airport. The display will be the size of two football fields and our part will include the metroport video which has now been translated into German and eight photos of the metroport cities. Donna suggested that the Southlake Chamber of Commerce and the Southlake Economic Development Council donate fifty dollars each toward this project. The suggestion was motioned by Susan Evans and seconded by Cheryl Woolsey. Donna also reported that David McMahan of the Crossroads Shopping Center would be leaving information on the current leasing status at the chamber. This will allow the chamber staff to answer any calls they receive regarding the center. V. COMMITTEE REPORTS A.) Economic Profile: Bethann Scratchard reported that she and Greg Last were still working on the draft report. B.) Property Profile: John Drews was absent. C.) Business Retention: It was decided that Cheryl Woolsey, Betty Springer and David Bergman would visit approximately eight businesses per month. It was also decided that these businesses would have to be called upon first, since there has been no response to the ads that ran in the Southlake Chamber of Commerce News and Times and the Southlake Journal, asking businesses to call them. D.) Abatements: Susan Evans discussed the the fact that we needed to decide if we were going to use abatements, and if so, what type of abatements would be used. VI. OLD BUSINESS A.) FM 1709: Rick Wilhelm reported that the city of Southlake has agreed to pay one million dollars for road improvements. The bids will be completed by the end of July. Keller is still debating over medians or a center turn lane. Therefore, the road improvement continuation past the boundaries of Southlake is questionable. Rick Wilhelm reported the Timarron Development's Golf Course and Clubhouse was approved at the last city council meeting. Susan Evans explained the Golf Course and Clubhouse will be a major attraction for new companies and industries in the Southlake area. B.) David Baltimore reported that Grid Systems, a Tandy Corporation, will be moving into the Solana offices. Richard Kuhlman stated that everything was not finalized at this time. However, he did state that they had a temporary committment . C.) Post Office: Rick Wilhelm reported that the construction is still in progress. D.) Texaco Food Mart: Rick Wilhelm reported that the construction of the Texaco Food Mart, at the corner of . Randall Mill Road and FM 1709 and Southlake Boulevard, is on schedule. VII. NEW BUSINESS A.) Chamber Luncheon: Rick Wilhelm reminded the Board that the Southlake Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon will be held May 26, 1992, at 11:30am at the Marriott Solana Hotel. VIII. ADJOURNMENT The next meeting is scheduled for June 24th at 8:30am, in the Southlake City Hall. Meeting Adjourned.
