Present: Brad Bradley, Barry Emerson, Bethann Scratchard,
Phillip Bress i nck, Virginia C l,--w, Curtis Hawk and
Betty Springer.
Absent: Rick Wilhelm, Mike Thompson, Marvin Cook, and Phyllis
Catton.
Guests: Gary Fickes.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairman Phillip Bressinck called the meeting to order
and established that a quorum was present.
II. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion by Brad Bradley, seconded by Virginia Clow, to
approve the July 11th minutes as submitted. Passed.
III. TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer Marvin Cook was absent. Betty Springer reported
that the checkbook opening balance for July was $S,728.47.
Deposits for the month totaled $2,025.00 and expenses totaled
$3,302.87, leaving a balance as of July 31st in the amount of
$7,450.60. Betty pointed out that there should be one additional
invoice coming in related to the promo video plus additional
expenses related to the upcoming Regional Realtors Rally. Motion
by Virginia Clow, seconded by Brad Bradley, to accept the
financial report presented. Passed.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
a) Video: Betty reported several videos had been sold, and
that they were available in the Chamber/SEDC office for $5.00 ea.
b) Economic Profile: Tabled due to absence of Rick Wilhelm.
c) Sister City: Brad recapped Seiko Sasaki's visit. We will
be putting together a package of informational items to send to
Toyoma for display at their Fall celebration, and Seiko indicated
they would be sending a similar package to us.
d) Community Information Survey: The 1987 survey was briefly
reviewed and suggestions made for change-. Curtis Hawk and Betty
Springer will try to have a draft of a new survey ready for
review at the next meeting.
e) Post Office: Betty reported she lead talked with Larry
Andrews who indicated a site had not yet been selected. His
report on the 14 proposed sites has beer, given to the selection

committee, and her hopes to have an answer from thorn within the
month. Gary Fickes said he had talked with Mobil recently about
the possibility of some land on 1709 for a city h«x%1 complex and
that in subsequent discussions with the postmoaster° he was very
interested in the possibility of locating the post office near
the city hall facility should that become a reality.
f) Realtors Rally: The Rally is scheduled for August 24th.
Virginia, Berry, Phillip, and Bred volunteered to help work the
booth. Betty indicated she is looking into having some general
information sheets about the city printed for the Rally. The
city map supply will be very limited for the Rally. A.I.D.
Associates is working on the new map. Brad volunteered to help
in rewriting the narrative. Betty will submit information to
A.I.D. for their draft.
g) American Flyer Apparel: Curtis had received information
about the Texas Capital program and has sent it to Rick Wilhelm
for review. He will also get the information to Worth Blake.
The program is geared toward minority owned businesses (AFA is
female owned which should perhaps qualify for the program).
h) Other: MetroPort/UTA-IUS Economic Development Seminar
will be Aug. 9-10 at the Marriott Solana' Letter from
Distribution Equipment seeking information on vacant buildings
where shelving/warehouse type materials might have been left.
Letter sent from SEDC to Chamber members seeking information on
land sites and commercial/industrial buildings available in
Southlake in order to develop an inventory listing.
V. NEW BUSINESS
a) Curtis stated the City Council will be holding the first
public hearing for the city budget on August 21st and the first
reading on September 7th.
b) Other: September 13th is the tentative date for the
official grand opening celebration for the Marriott Solana. Brad
has talked with John Tidwell who feels the Food Lion deal in
Roanoke is very close to being finalized. Question was asked if
there was any further information on the poswwsibility of a golf
course in the Mobil development (no info). Barry Emerson
reminded everyone the Chamber will be hosting Casino Night on
September 22nd with the net proceeds designated to go to the
proposed Southlake library project.
VI. SET NEXT MEETING & ADJOURNMENT
Curtis suggested moving the meetings to the fourth Wednesday
to help eliminate the meetings being the morning after City
Council meetings which sometimes run well into the early morning
hours. Motion by Barry Emerson, seconded by Virginia Clow, to
change meeting dates to the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Passed.
The next meeting will be August 22nd at Southlake City Hall
