Board of Directors Meeting
Monday, February 3, 1997
7:00 p.m. at the Community Center at Bicentennial Park
Board Members Present: Lisa Stokdyk, President; Phyllis Catton, Jim Goggin, Amy
Martin, Julia Smith, Suzanne Tuttle. (Quorum not present.)
Agenda Items:
1) Call To Order: Meeting was called to order by President Lisa Stokdyk at 7:14 p.m.
2) Approval of Minutes for the January 6, 1997 Meeting: Unable to approve due to lack
of quorum.
3) President's Report: Lisa Stokdyk discussed the following items:
a)
Suzanne Tuttle has agreed to serve as Secretary for the rest of the term.
Unable to take an official vote due to lack of quorum.
b)
Sandy Gouldthorpe, Science Coordinator at Carroll Elementary, sent a thank -
you for the composting advice and bins along with nature drawings from the
art class.
c)
Lisa received a newsletter from Texas Garden Clubs. Champion International
Paper Company is donating trees to TGC that we, as TGC members, can
request for our citizens. The species they are providing for our area are red
oak and bald cypress. Lisa will check on what species of red oak since not all
are adapted to our area. Otherwise, we plan to make these available to the
public free of charge.
d)
Lisa urged the committees to meet.
4) Treasurer's Report: Mike Lease not present.
5) Administrative Report: We discussed the notes in our packet from Kevin Hugman,
particularly the KTB regional meeting. We also recorded our volunteer hours.
6) Committee Reports:
a) Special Events: Amy Martin and Phyllis Catton discussed the thank -you gifts
for Scott Martin and Ed McRoy. Scott will receive a $50 gift certificate from
Weston Gardens, and Ed will receive a plaque. Phyllis also reported that
Beautiful Business signs have been ordered and should arrive next week.
b) Beautification: Lisa Stokdyk, Tom Sanderlin and Julia Smith presented the
Atkins and the Mindts with "Composting Demonstration Yard" signs on
Monday, February 3. The media was present to record the event.
c) Litter: Lisa Stokdyk reported for Tom Sanderlin that he is still compiling
numbers from the January Trash -off.
d) Education: Lisa Stokdyk reported that the Girl Scout troop from The Clariden
School is having a composting class on Thursday, February 6 and wants 20
bins. Also another Girl Scout troop wants to plant trees as an educational
project.
e) By -Laws: Did not meet.
Old Business
7) Gumball Machine: Phyllis Catton talked to Kroger's manager. They already have a
contract for gumball machines with someone else. Joey Milner was also contacted.
Although they already have gumball machines in their Blockbuster stores, he said they
may be able to donate the proceeds from one machine to KSB.
8) March For Parks: Amy Martin met with two Park Board members to discuss the
March For Parks. Amy could not commit to doing the event by herself without
support and approval from the rest of the KSB Board. Lisa will call to get more
information.
9) Fundraising Ideas: Not discussed.
New Business
10) Membership Drive: Having inserts placed in the City of Southlake newsletter will cost
us $400. We would need to recruit 80 new members to break even. The consensus
was that we doubted we would make that figure. We were not able to vote on the
discussion due to lack of quorum.
Non -Agenda Items
City Councilman Scott Martin attended for the last few minutes and gave a report
on the street tree planting project. Lisa Stokdyk will write a letter to Park Department
Director Kim Lenoir representing KSB. In the letter, Lisa will state that KSB does not
support the planting of trees by the City in homeowners' front yards unless the home is on
a major thoroughfare.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
