Agenda Items:
1) Call To Order: Meeting was called to order by Todd Radford at 7:30 p.m.
2) President's Report: Results of Election
President: Todd Radford
Vice President: Pamela Muller
Treasurer: Mike Lease
Secretary: Caroline Havens
Locations of meetings will be at Bicentennial Park. We will have a Rotary Club (non-
profit group) garage sale on October 17, 1998.
3) Treasurer's Report: Report not available.
There is presently approximately $10,000 in the Keep Southlake Beautiful account.
We are to submit to City budget. Each committee needs to determine how funds will
be used. Once budget is approved, we will have access to $4,500 from the City.
Committees need to be specific as to how funds will be used. Last year we made a
commitment for funds to the Senior Activity Center. Last year, we discussed funds to
be set aside for a Donor Sign at Waterscape. Membership drive will help increase
funds as well. As far as newcomers, businesses will be determined from Economic
Development. For the Welcome Wagon, the Water Department will distribute flyers
with the recycling bins and with their water bills. It was suggested that Todd Radford
attend Chamber meeting to submit new businesses. The Homeowners Associations
could also be targeted.
4) Administrative Report:
-Dick Johnson has received a second grant of $4,200 for the Tree Farm. He will go to
City on Wednesday.
-"Don't Mess With Texas" campaign needs local support (copy distributed).
-The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary brochures distributed
(copy distributed)
-For our October meeting we will try to have Bob Horton be a guest speaker.
-Volunteer forms will be distributed for completion.
Old Business
5) Donor Sign --Need to discuss previous plans with Julia, and come to a final resolution.
Then we should empower Julia to complete the Donor Sign. Mike Lease made motion
to empower Julia to complete it, and Barbara Derby seconded.
6) Completion of Soft Scape--Bluestem available at Bob Jones Park. We need to try to
complete this in next two months. We will submit ideas to Ben Henry when available.
We will review Jim Levy's plans for the Waterscape and determine costs on plantings
for the Waterscape.
7) Landscape Classes
a. Suzanne Tuttle can give classes on Landscaping for Wildlife (any time
after October). She will charge approximately $50 fee to do the class.
Classes would be available to public, with a $5 charge, and would be
done in the evening. Wendy suggested we change name to
"Landscaping for Attracting Birds" instead of "Wildlife."
b. Jim Levy could give a Landscape Design Class once a week for four
months.
C. Wendy Carlucci suggested Woodson do a Perennial Class.
d. Master Gardener Class will be made available.
8) Annual Rotary Club garage sale --October 17. The Quorum decided to decline
participation in sale.
9) Senior Activity Center --a work day is needed to put plants in beds. October is the
targeted time for planting. Three hours of volunteer time is needed.
10) Bob Jones Park Nature Center --Monticello donated a trailer to be used at center. Does
Keep Southlake Beautiful want to become involved with the center? For example, we
could advise to the Park Board or Council. Educational center for xeriscape, etc.
We need to identify what center will be. We could serve as a representative committee
to explore opportunities for the center. Pamela Muller and Courtney Queen would
further explore with the City.
New Business
11) Trash pick up is scheduled for January 16, 1999. Do we need to change date due to
the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday? It would be a good idea to change it to January 9.
12) Pamela Muller will discuss with School Boardmember, Sandra Logan, how to
familiarize school with Tree Preservation Ordinance.
13) Committees should meet before the next meeting.
