Board of Directors Meeting
Monday, November 2, 1998
7:00 p.m. at the Community Center at Bicentennial Park
Board Members Present: President Tod Radford, Secretary Caroline Havens,
Treasurer Mike Lease, Barbie Derby, Mary Jean Oman,
Mahala Gardner, Wendi Carlucci, Marcelle Schwartzstein
Staff Present: Courtney Queen, Community Services Coordinator
Agenda Items:
1) Call To Order: Meeting was called to order by Tod Radford at 7:58
p.m.
2) Approval of Minutes: Mahala Gardner made a motion that the minutes from the
October 5, 1998 meeting be approved. Mike Lease seconded, and the minutes
were approved unanimously.
3) President's Report: Tod reported that Make a Difference Day on October
24, 1998 at the Senior Center, was a successful endeavor. Cora Lee
Brannon, Jane Butler, Wendi Carlucci, Caroline Havens, Tod Radford, and
Lisa Stokdyk represented KSB. Beds were weeded, plants installed, and trees
were planted. Youth groups as well as senior citizens participated. KSB will
be donating 1 or 2 trees to the Senior Center. Wendy Carlucci passed the
Senior Center's landscaping plans over to Tod for the Beautification Committee
to keep on file. Beautification Committee is to determine when it will
coordinate quarterly clean-ups at the Senior Center. Clean-up dates can be
posted on the Senior Center's bulletin board.
The Harvest Fest booth brought in approximately $80. Tod and Sandra
Radford manned the booth, with assistance from Rachel with the National
Charity League.
4) Treasurer's Report: No report was available or needed.
5) Administrative Report: Courtney Queen reported that Home Depot will
coordinate activities for Texas Recycles Day with KSB on November 14, 1998.
KSB is to inform Home Depot of the nature of activities/materials needed. The
Membership and Education Committees will represent KSB at this event.
6) Committee Reports
a. Litter: No report available
b. Beautification: A clean-up and wildflower sowing day planned
within the week. Committee will contact volunteers for day and
time.
C. Education: A landscaping class with Suzanne Tuttle has been
scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 1998 at 7:00
p.m. at the Sr. Center.
Classes with Andy Wasowski and Jim Leavy are
still being arranged. An herb class is being set for
the first Tuesday in March at 7:00 p.m. at the
Senior Center. Overlaps with the Special Events
Committee were discussed and resolved. The
Education Committee was commended for its
efforts to date. Books have already been presented
to local schools as well as wildflower donations.
Old Business
7) Special Events Committee requested that existing committees be revised or
regrouped for clarification of Scope of Services. The establishment of the
following committees were suggested and discussed at length by the Directors:
a. Newsletter Committee --responsible for monthly newsletter and
press releases
b. Membership Committee --responsible for renewals (date to be
researched and determined), organization and maintenance of
database, soliciting memberships to organizations such as scout
groups, high school science groups, student councils, honor
societies, etc.
C. Education Committee --responsible for distributing materials,
maintaining school and community contacts --committee is to have
two categories, one targeted for adults, and one for youth --
landscape classes would be provided throughout the year for the
adults.
d. Beautification Committee --responsible for providing hands-on
support in our community beautification projects i.e.,
Bicentennial Waterscape landscape, Senior Center landscape,
Adopt -A -Spot, Tree Farm, Native Plant Rescues, and
wildflower seed donations.
e. Executive Committee --responsible for coordinating the
participation of other committees in the KSB events, such as
Make a Difference Day, Kite Festival, Fall Fest, Arbor Day,
Rotary Garage Sale, Beautiful Business Award, Bicentennial
Information Board
f. Litter Committee --responsible for leading efforts to reduce trash
and pollution in our community through quarterly trash pick-ups,
Adopt -A -Street participation, Photometric index, and hazardous
waste disposal drop-off
8) Marcelle Schwartzstein reported that the birdhouses the Brownie Troops
donated to KSB in the spring had not yet been distributed to the schools. Mary
Jean volunteered to handle the distribution. Caroline Havens will also place
houses at the Waterscape and Senior Center. Wendi Carlucci will acknowledge
the troops donation through the newsletter.
