PARK AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING
Monday, May 11, 1992
Minutes
Board members present: Chairperson, Janet Murphy; Members: Ann
Barnes, Donn Renwick, and Mike Thompson.
Members absent: Lynn Haggerty, Rod Johnson, Mike Jurecka, and
Terry Mitchell.
City staff present: Chris Terry, Asst. to the City Manager.

3. Administrative Comments.
a) Janet Murphy reported that a new Lake Grapevine CORPS
Director, Bill Collins, is now on staff at the Lake
facility. Mr. Collins expressed interest in appearing
before the Board in coming months to examine possible
cooperative projects.
4. Consider - 1992 Summer Baseball Camp.
Sam Booker appeared before the Board to present his proposal
for an instructional baseball camp for children in the
Southlake area. The camp would be held June 1-19 at the
Bicentennial baseball fields for children ages 7-14. Booker
explained that he would like to see a minimum number of 100
campers enrolled. The fee for the camp would be $100.00 per
person. Booker submitted a detailed proposal that was well
received by the Board. The Board decided to recommend Council
approval of Sam Booker's "Camp for Champions" as submitted May
5 at the Park & Recreation Board meeting.
Motion: Barnes.
Second: Renwick
Ayes: Barnes, Murphy, Renwick, and Thompson.
Nays: Haggerty (phone vote).
Approved: 4-1.
5. Consider - Quorum Change Recommendation to Ordinance #515.
The Board moved to request that Council amend Ordinance #515
to allow 3 Parks & Recreation Board members to constitute a
quorum.
Motion: Thompson.
Second: Barnes.
Ayes: Barnes, Haggerty (phone vote), Murphy, Renwick, and
Thompson.
Nays: none.
Approved: 5-0.

6. Consider - Parks Board Recommendation for Park Construction
Work Undertaken by the Citv.
This item was withdrawn from consideration.
9. Discussion - Joint Use of Montessori Academy Land.
Members of the Southlake Historical Society joined the
discussion of possible uses for approximately 4 acres adjacent
to the present school facility. The Montessori Board of
Directors representative said that their Board did not wish to
sell the land. A leasing arrangement is possible if
Montessori proposes a minimum lease fee. Discussions centered
on possibly using this land as a site for a nature study park
with historical buildings placed at the location.
Meeting Adjourned at 9:55 p.m.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is set for Monday, June 8 at
7:00 p.m. The Board will meet at the new community building at
Bicentennial Park and following a tour of the facility adjourn to
the City Hall Council Chambers to hold their meeting.
