1992-10-12CITY OF SOUTHLAKE PARK AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING Monday, October 12, 1992 Minutes Board members present: Chairwoman, Janet Murphy; Members: Ann Barnes, Carol Lee Hamilton, Vicki Johnson, Mike Jurecka, Donn Renwick, and Mike Thompson. City staff present: Chris Terry, Asst. to the City Manager. Meeting called to order at 7:07 p.m. Agenda Items Discussed: 3. Administrative Comments: a) Murphy presented a letter sent to Jan Saunders, President of the Southlake Historical Society requesting their assistance in drafting potential names of historical significance for the newly renovated community building. 4. Consider: Park Use Policy Revisions The Board discussed several issues regarding the present use policy including fee rates, reservation practices, and cleaning requirements. Murphy appointed Donn Renwick and Vicki Johnson to a task force charged with researching and drafting a revised park use policy for Board review. Board action on this item was tabled until further work is completed by the task force. The Board hopes to present their recommended changes to the park use policy to the City Council at the first meeting in November. 5. Consider: CISD Letter The Board discussed setting a joint meeting among the Parks Board, School Board, CISD administrators, City Council, and City staff to move ahead with joint -use arrangements between the City and the CISD for recreational and extra -curricular activities. Murphy requested that Terry contact the entities involved to set the meeting on either November 9 or November 16. Ann Barnes and Mike Thompson will draft an agenda for the joint meeting. 6. Consider: 1991-92 and 1992-93 Budgets Murphy reported on the recent purchase of equipment and meeting furniture for the new community building. Murphy also reported that the upcoming CISD Band Auction might have suitable equipment for purchase. Parks Board Minutes 10/12/92 Pg. 2 9. Discussion: Bicentennial Park Maintenance Issues - V. Johnson reported that the back stop fence on Field #3 needs repair near the bottom. Barnes reported that the lights at the tennis courts were not working properly. Repair work also needs to be done on the picnic tables located at the top of the hill at the park. The Board discussed possibly having concrete tables installed in an effort to decrease the frequency of repair work. Terry will discuss this problem with Public Works Director Mike Barnes. Meeting Adjourned at 9:27 p.m. A special Parks Board Workshop is scheduled for Monday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bicentennial Park community building. The next regularly scheduled Parks Board meeting is set for Monday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. This meeting may be conducted jointly with City officials and the CISD.
