CALL TO ORDER Chairman Beverly Blake called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:00 p.m. 2. PUBLIC FORUM – Chair Beverly Blake opened Public Forum at 1:00 p.m. There being no one to address the Commission, Public Forum was closed. 3. REPORTS 3A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW Executive Director Mary King presented the quarterly report and addressed questions regarding meal costs, money collected for congregate and home delivery meal services, and contributions MMOW receives for congregate meal programs from surrounding cities. A copy of the April 2018 MMOW report and the 2018 cumulative report were included in the meeting packet. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS volunteer and Senior Advisory Commission member Natasha Siebach and Deputy Director Candice Edmondson reported on CARS volunteer recruitment efforts. A copy of the April 2018 CARS report was included in the meeting packet. 3C. CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE A report was not provided at this meeting. A quarterly report will be provided at the August 14, 2018 meeting. 3D. COMMUNITY SERVICES Deputy Director Candice Edmondson presented an overview of the April Senior Center Dashboard Report and answered questions from the Commission. A copy of the report was included in the packet. Participation for bridge classes will be included in the monthly dashboard reports beginning in August. 3E. SENIOR SERVICES Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Mashat-Phelps reported about Senior Center activities, events and responded to questions. Events and programs were well attended during the month and staff received positive feedback from participants. The quarterly senior newsletter will be available next week. A new registration feature has been implemented to aid members in keeping track of their program registrations. 4. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. 4A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE MAY 8, 2018 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING. Senior Advisory Commission did not have changes or corrections to the May 8, 2018 meeting minutes. APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes of the May 8, 2018 meeting. RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE PROPOSED FISCAL YEAR 2019 SENIOR SERVICES GENERAL FUND BUDGET Deputy Director Candice Edmondson presented the proposed fiscal year 2019 Senior Services general fund budget and answered questions concerning contract service agreements. Senior Advisory Commission did not recommend changes to the proposed budget. APPROVED A motion was made to accept the Fiscal Year 2019 Senior Services General Fund Budget as presented. SENIOR CENTER MEMBERSHIP AND PROGRAM FEES Deputy Director Candice Edmondson presented information about resident and non- resident Senior Center membership and program fees and responded to questions. The Commission reviewed a list of membership and program fees charged at other senior centers and requested Southlake fees for senior programs be added to the list. Currently, membership to Southlake senior center is free to residents and non - residents. Southlake senior program fees are: Lunch $4 Art Classes $4 Dances $6 Technology $5 Trip Registration $3 + cost of trip Bingo $1 Southlake Senior Center fitness classes are offered at no charge. Many cities charge fees for senior fitness classes. Commission members expressed a desire to explore the possibility of instituting a non-resident senior center membership fee that could help off-set Champions Club membership fees for senior residents. Commission members requested discussion item will be placed on the August meeting agenda. 7. The Commission reviewed membership and program fees at other senior centers within Southlake’s 18 benchmark cities. During the discussion, the Commission requested staff provide the following additional information on the fees spreadsheet:  Southlake Senior Center membership & program fees  Age designation for other senior centers  Senior membership rates for recreation centers within the benchmark cities An updated list of membership and program fees reflecting the above requested changes will be provided to you at the meeting. Financial Considerations: Any membership fees implemented at the Senior Activity Center would help off-set the costs of programs and events, support facility and program enhancements and aid in achieving established cost recovery goals.
