20 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Terri Messing at 7:12 p.m.

22 Agenda Item No. 2. Administrative Comments

24 A. Performing Arts Center Update — Ms. Reid presented the following information
25 on the Apex group's progress. A theatre consultant has been contacted as
26 suggested by the Eisehman Performing Arts Center and a focus group has been
27 established with the theatre groups in the area. A representative from Casa
28 Mariana, who is also a Southlake resident, has expressed an interest in serving on
29 the advisory board regardless of the involvement by Casa Manana. The executive
30 board of the Apex Regional Arts Center is exploring an additional site for the
31 Center, other than at Town Square, that has been proposed by the developers of
32 the Aventerra on a piece of property on SH 114. The group is continuing
33 negotiations for the best advantages offered by each location. Apex Regional Arts
34 Center has adopted a new name — the Apex Arts League, Inc. Fundraising events
35 are being planned this fall in conjunction with the Art Walk on October 27-29,
36 2006. Classes are being planned and developed by Robin Snyder. Apex Arts
37 League, Inc. is also drafting a joint use agreement with the City.

39 B. Arts Center Survey — Deputy Director Tribble distributed copies of the eleven
40 responses received from the April Arts Center Survey.

42 C. Artist Presentation — Sandra Van Zandt was not able to attend the meeting to
43 make a presentation regarding art work for the roundabouts, but will make the
44 presentation at the August PAAC meeting.

Agenda Item No. 3. Consider: Approval of the Public Arts Advisory Committee meeting
minutes of June 27, 2006.
A motion was made to approve the minutes with changes as presented.

Agenda Item No. 4. Public Forum
Chairman Messing opened Public Forum. No one wished to address the Committee
during Public Forum. Public Forum was closed.
Agenda Item No. 5. Consider: Submissions for Southlake Stampede Art Work
Deputy Director Tribble presented this item. The first public display of the Longhorns
will be at the City's 501h Anniversary celebration on September 16, 2006.
Three artist submissions — #25 — Dante Mool, #26 — Sold on Southlake and #27 — Mac
Steer — were considered by the members for their approval or disapproval.
A motion was made to accept the three artist submissions.

Agenda Item No. 6. Consider: Donation of Longhorn Statue(s) to City
Deputy Director Tribble presented this item. The Stampede committee has been
approached by several sponsors wanting to purchase a Longhorn or calf and donate it to
the City following the one-year public exhibit. Once received, the City has the option to
display on public property or deaccession the Southlake Stampede art work. If the City
chooses to deaccession the statue by selling it, the additional funds, per Ordinance 803,
are designated to go into the public art fund.
A motion was made to accept and take the action as requested.

City Council will consider this item at the next available meeting. All donations
recommended for placement in City parks will also require consideration by the Parks
and Recreation Board.
Agenda Item No. 7. Discussion: Themes for Artwork for the Roundabouts
As the committee continues their discussion on possible themes for each roundabout,
they would like to see additional presentations by local sculptures. Members will provide
staff with contact information on possible leads for artists and will bring their list of
schematic ideas for the roundabout art work themes to the August PAAC meeting.
Agenda Item No. 8. Discussion: Promoting Public Art — StandingItem

The committee discussed their desire to work with the Texas Sculpture Association or
other organizations to provide periodic "roving" art work and/or sculpture pieces in a
gallery setting in Southlake Town Hall lobby or other suitable City location. The
committee would like to start planning an exhibition for next summer, following the Art
In the Square event. Preliminary to exploring possible locations, display options, security
details and other issues, the committee would like to know if and what liability issues
may be involved with such and exhibit.
Other Item
Staff will contact Mary Georgia about borrowing her copy
the August PAAC meeting.
