FORUM SUMMARY:
Property Situation: Carroll ISD is proposing an approximately 13,744 square foot classroom
addition and interior renovation to Old Union Elementary School located at 1050 S. Carroll Ave.
Development Details:
Old Union Elementary – Addition renovation
Existing building
o Widen front drop off sidewalk
o Add entry canopies along driveway
o Add speed tables (widen speed bumps)
o Resurfacing playground
o Add addition
Part of new addition will include a 4th grade wing, a tornado shelter (which is
required by building code) and a pre-k area
Included in the renovations, there is a request to b ring the administration office
forward (closer to the front of the building) to create a secured entry
o The administration office will have additional conference rooms and a front
receptionist
Tornado shelter
o Shelter features storm doors and storm shutters and a control room
o Shelter will serve 650 students and 80 staff members
Geothermal wells —> rerouting back to building
Front entrance canopies
o New parent drop-off near front of the building
o Widen sidewalk coverage

Questions and Concerns:
1. What is the timeline for the project / renovations?
A: Old Union will be completed in phases. The new addition will be completed first to
create capacity for the renovations. Project will begin in summer 2018 and be carried out
in a series of phases to shift students and will be completing August 2019
