SB - SV18-002 DemonstrationPAGE 1/2 FRONT SIGN The applicant is open at night, and cannot have a lighted sign. The applicant also has a few letters that are 14". The applicant and Global Signs Inc. are concerned that the current code will cause public confusion (due to lighting) and interruption with the design elements of the Southlake Town Square regarding the size of the sign being too small for their sign area. To clarify: to bring the specific letter sizes down to 12", the entire sign would need to be decreased proportionately as to maintain integrity of the brand, which will result in a disproportionate / small sign, on a much larger fascia. 2: Hardship is imposed by current Southlake City code stating that no signs on the second story shall be lighted, and by the code that allows up to 12" letters. 3. This sign has been approved by the property owners and will be structurally sound and mounted to a brick fascia. 4. The sign will be modern in design and will be in harmony with the overarching upscale theme of Southlake Town Square. PAGE 2/2 BLADE SIGN 1: The applicant is open at night, and cannot have a lighted sign on the second story. Also, the allowed size (4sgft) for blade sign would not be legible to the public they are trying to reach from the back alley where their entrance is located. The sign is also located near the back stairwell, which is the only access to the Mattison Ave. suite on the second floor. 2: Hardship is imposed by current Southlake City code stating that no sign on the second story shall be lighted; by the Southlake City code stating that it only allows 4sgft blade sign, and by the code that limits signs location next to a stairwell. Hardship is also imposed by tenant entrance location in the back alley. If left small, non -lighted, or non-existent, it will lead to public confusion and possible safety hazards. 3: This sign has been approved by the property owners and will be structurally sound and mounted to exterior fascia; it will be fastened securely using a steel bolt mounting system. 4. The sign lighting will be subtle, and the sign face/structure will be modern in design. The sign blends with the area overarching upscale theme.
