STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Shana Yelverton, Assistant City Manager Ben Thatcher, Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development & Tourism Alison Ortowski, Assistant to the City Manager Lauren LaNeave, Chief Strategic Performance & Innovation Officer Dale Dean, Deputy Director of Marketing and Communications Pilar Schank, Chief Financial Officer Sharen Jackson, Deputy Director of Community Services Kate Meacham, Deputy Director of Community Services Candice Edmondson, Police Chief James Brandon, Assistant Chief of Police Ashleigh Douglas, Fire Chief Mike Starr, Director of Human Resources Stacey Black, Director of Information Technology Greg Hendricks, Senior Director of Planning and Development Services Ken Baker, Director of Public Works Rob Cohen, Deputy Director of Public Works Kyle Hogue, and City Secretary Carol Borges. 1.CALL TO ORDER Mayor Laura Hill called the workshop to order at 6:33pm. 2.DINNER/WELCOME Mayor Hill welcomed everyone. Council had dinner during the onset of the meeting. Mayor Hill changed the agenda order, electing not to use the breakout room for roundtable discussions, but to have the team leaders present each subject to the Council in the main meeting room. Mayor Hill asked to begin with the 2017 Citizen Satisfaction Survey (Item 4A). City Manager Shana Yelverton made opening comments. 3.DISCUSSION: STRATEGIC PRIORITIES 3A. Julie Trujillo and Felicia Rogers from Decision Analyst answered questions from Council. Mrs Yelverton commended Lauren LaNeave for her hard work and strong marketing plan, which allowed the City to achieve such a high participation rate. 5. DISCUSSION: PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT 5A. 2017 EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT STUDY City Manager Shana Yelverton introduced Director of Human Resources Stacey Black, who presented the results of the 2017 Employee Engagement Study and answered questions from Council. 6. ACCOUNTABILITY 6A. SOUTHLAKE 2030/2035 IMPLEMENTATION Senior Director of Planning and Development Services Ken Baker presented the 2030/2035 Corridor Plan and answered questions from Council, identifying stages in the planning process. 7. FOCUS AREA DISCUSSION 7A. SAFETY & SECURITY Fire Chief Mike Starr and Police Chief James Brandon discussed Safety & Security and answered questions from Council, specifying a reas of future readiness and manpower needs. 7B. MOBILITY 7C. INFRASTRUCTURE Director of Public Works Rob Cohen and Deputy Director of Public Works Kyle Hogue presented Items 7B and 7C simultaneously and answered questions from Council. 7D. QUALITY DEVELOPMENT Senior Director of Planning and Development Services Ken Baker and Assistant City Manager and Director of Economic Development & Tourism Alison Ortowski presented Quality Development and answered questions from Council. PARTNERSHIPS & VOLUNTEERISM Director of Human Resources Stacey Black and Deputy Director of Marketing and Communications Pilar Schank discussed the City’s Partnership & Volunteerism and answered questions from Council. 7F. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Chief Financial Officer Sharen Jackson and Director of Information Technology Greg Hendricks discussed Performance Management, including IT security measures, and answered questions from Council. 8. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Hill thanked the staff for their hard work and dedication to the City and adjourned the meeting at 9:30pm. *An audio recording of this meeting will be permanently retained in the City Secretary’s Office.
