CALL TO ORDER Vice -Chair Kelly Carlson called the meeting of the Southlake Library Board to order at 6:11 p.m. 2. CONSENT Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Southlake Library Board and are enacted with one motion. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 9, 2017 SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING. APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the August 9, 2017 Southlake Library Board meeting. Motion: Dhanani Second: Ross Ayes: Carlson and Ingraham Nays: None Abstain: Vote: 4-0 Motion Carried. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT City Librarian Pfledderer reviewed the August statistics and noted it should be a great year for the Library. Traffic numbers and programs were up and youth programs also increased. Overall there has been growth in all areas. 4. DISCUSSION 4A. Overdue Fee Update City Librarian Pfledderer noted that the City Council reviewed and passed a new version of the City's fee schedule. Late fees for DVDs, Bluray and CDs have been reduced from $1 a day to $0.25 per day beginning on October 1, 2017. The website and brochures have been updated with the reduced fees. 4B. 2018 Library Work Plan City Librarian Pfledderer said she has been preparing the 2018 Library work plan. She said that the Library will be transitioning to becoming its own department and will be under the City Manager's Office and not Community Services. The work plan includes plans for collections, training, and specific initiatives. She noted the summer reading program will be different next year with a shorter time frame and a goal to provide a unique Southlake experience. She wants to offer pre-school workshops, extra -curricular activities for school age children, and other engaging programs for families to have a sense of community. She mentioned some upcoming programs including a jazzy open house in early December. Board member Dhanani asked if the Library could look into AVID for middle- schoolers which is a great program to assist with leadership skills. She also thought that a family book club might be a good idea in the City parks during slow summer months. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Vice -Chair Kelly Carlson opened the public forum at 6:40 p.m. and asked for anyone wishing to speak to come forward. There being no questions, the public forum was closed at 6:40 p.m. 6.
