3. REPORTS
3A. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
City Librarian Pfledderer reviewed the August statistics and noted it should be a
great year for the Library. Traffic numbers and programs were up and youth
programs also increased. Overall there has been growth in all areas.
4. DISCUSSION
4A. Overdue Fee Update
City Librarian Pfledderer noted that the City Council reviewed and passed a new
version of the City's fee schedule. Late fees for DVDs, Bluray and CDs have
been reduced from $1 a day to $0.25 per day beginning on October 1, 2017. The
website and brochures have been updated with the reduced fees.
4B. 2018 Library Work Plan
City Librarian Pfledderer said she has been preparing the 2018 Library work
plan. She said that the Library will be transitioning to becoming its own
department and will be under the City Manager's Office and not Community
Services. The work plan includes plans for collections, training, and specific
initiatives. She noted the summer reading program will be different next year
with a shorter time frame and a goal to provide a unique Southlake experience.
She wants to offer pre-school workshops, extra -curricular activities for school age
children, and other engaging programs for families to have a sense of
community. She mentioned some upcoming programs including a jazzy open
house in early December.
Board member Dhanani asked if the Library could look into AVID for middle-
schoolers which is a great program to assist with leadership skills. She also
thought that a family book club might be a good idea in the City parks during slow
summer months.
5. PUBLIC FORUM
Vice -Chair Kelly Carlson opened the public forum at 6:40 p.m. and asked for
anyone wishing to speak to come forward. There being no questions, the public
forum was closed at 6:40 p.m.
