4. REPORTS
4A. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
City Librarian Pfledderer reviewed the October 2017 statistics and said
programming has been impacted by the elections because the conference rooms
are unavailable for Library use. December will have more programming so
Library visits are hopeful to increase. Digital circulation traffic is also down
including Ebsco, which had some reporting discrepancies from the vendor. She
noted that the digital library is up over 200% and Bookflix usage increased too.
Flipster is underutilized but is still being provided. Overall, the Library is doing
well.
5. DISCUSSION
5A. Library Overview
City Librarian Pfledderer said she listened to last month's meeting and wanted to
provide a more detailed overview of the Library operation since there had been
some questions from new members. She discussed programming, services, and
City -led events and briefly went over what constitutes those public facing items.
She went over the behind -the -scene operations, which is the primary role of the
Librarians and administrative support staff. She discussed the Strategic
Management System and initiatives the Library has in 2018. She mentioned the
annual report which is submitted annually for the Library accreditation. She said
Southlake, in comparison to surrounding cities, has a leaner budget and she likes
to keep a pulse on what they're doing to better meet customer needs. She noted
various community partnerships and joint initiatives to enhance programming.
This year, the Library will be removed from the Community Services department
and report to the City Manager's Office. This may help with funding since there
will be fewer competing divisions within the department. City Librarian Pfledderer
briefly reviewed the budget and the items that it encompasses. She discussed
City of Southlake Values. -
