3A. Review Proposed 2018 Library Budget
City Librarian Pfledderer said that the Library will be pulled out of the Community
Services Department during the next fiscal year and noted that some of the
budget figures will seem higher but it's only because the Library will no longer
have Community Services funds. She gave a brief overview of the budget and
some of the upcoming initiatives and areas of focus. She noted that CLOUD
Library has been easy to use and has received positive feedback overall and that
the Library wants to further enhance digital services in the upcoming year.
4. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
City Librarian Pfledderer reviewed the June statistics and said the Library traffic
numbers were up by 45% and print, digital and overall circulation numbers had
also increased. She noted that computer use has gone down but the study
rooms are being heavily utilized, which is the Library's goal.
5. DISCUSSION
5A. Southlake Summer Reading
City Librarian Pfledderer noted that the number for summer readers is down but
still high for the surrounding communities. She noted it was primarily low
registration for adults and pre-school but teens were up. She said they are
discussing formatting the summer reading program differently next year by
possibly shortening the program and offering another program mid -summer to
see if it draws more interest. The theme next year may be Southlake Spy
Academy or something similar. She mentioned the eclipse viewing party will be
on August 21 and also that the Wild West storyteller will be on August 17.
5B. Fall and Winter Programming
City Librarian Pfledderer said that the city will have a special election and the city
conference rooms are reserved for voting for about 6 weeks so this limits the
number of programs that can be offered. She reviewed some of the upcoming
programs through the end of the year.
6. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair Lori Burr opened the public forum at 6:59 p.m. and asked for anyone
wishing to speak to come forward. There being no questions, the public forum
was closed at 7:00 p.m.
