All Southlake Police Officers are currently issued standard body armor, which is rated to stop pistol and shotgun rounds, but not rifle rounds that travel at a much higher velocity. Due to the escalating nature of violence that involve rifles, it has become necessary to purchase each officer an additional set of body armor that will specifically protect them against rifle fire. 3 Rifle Rated Body Armor Purchase includes one set for every officer, which is a total of 67 Will be kept in the officer’s police unit, and can be donned when needed Budgeted within FY 2018 CCPD and approved at 10/10/17 CCPD meeting The new rifle armor will be issued to each individual officer, for a total of 67 sets. Each officer will keep the armor in the rear of their police unit, and it is designed to be put on over their uniform and standard concealable armor. This is applicable any time an officer may face a suspect armed with a rifle or when the suspect’s weaponry is unknown, such as during an active shooter situation.
