PROJECT: Variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended, for Public Storage
EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY: Barnett Sign, Inc., on behalf of Public Storage, is requesting approval of a
variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended, to allow the two attached
building signs, on separate facades, to exceed the allowable letter sizes and to
allow the two attached signs to be located on the upper story of the building
above the 20-foot height. Public Storage, currently under construction, is
located at 1750 Mustang Drive, Southlake, Texas.
REQUEST
DETAILS: The applicant is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-H
requirements, as amended, to allow larger than permitted sign letters for the
east and south attached signs and to allow the two attached signs to be located
on the 3rd floor (31-feet) of the upper story, above the 20-foot height limit.
Additional signs for the site include two (2) monument signs and two (2)
directional signs which comply with the sign ordinance.

**Meet current sign regulations
The applicant has provided a drawing in the Plans, Support Information and
Sign Package, page 10, for the proposed signs on both elevations (south and
east) with the permitted letter height and the proposed 24" letter height (letter
height variance required). The applicant has indicated that the lower level signs
will not be visible from the street located behind the required landscape trees.

reflected in the Staff Report dated May 12, 2017.
