Item 4B Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve Pavilion Item 4B Item 4B concerns the purchase of a new pavilion for the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve. 1 Approve purchase and installation of a new pavilion Replace tent at BJNCP InSite Amenities Not to exceed $95,000 Requested Action The City of Southlake Community Services Department is currently seeking to install a permanent pavilion to replace the existing tent located on the back patio of the Bob Jones Nature Center. Presented for City Council consideration is a proposal from InSite Amenities in the amount of $90,347.50 for the materials and labor costs of the construction of the structure. 2 Background – Existing Tent Slides of the existing structure at the park. 3 Custom Poligon shelter 30ft x 50ft shelter with 8ft clearance underneath Create a permanent covered space for outdoor education classes, programs and event rentals Pavilion will be similar to existing structure at BJNCP Proposed Pavilion 4 Site Location at BJNCP The proposed shade structure will be installed behind the Bob Jones Nature Center. It will be 30x50 ft. hip structure, with a ridge height of approximately 13 ft., with stone columns and standing seam metal roof to match the Nature Center building. 5 Existing Structure to Match The proposed structure is comparable in size to the existing structure at the park. 6 Previous success – Bicentennial Park BuyBoard Purchasing Contract Why InSite Amenities? The proposed shade structure is a custom, Poligon shelter. Poligon is a known leader in steel framed sun shelters, gazebos, shade structures, pergolas, trellises and carousel house and delivers a shelter that is not only attractive, but meets the highest quality standards. With the favorable pricing received in the Quote utilizing a BuyBoard Contract, and the City’s experience with the vendor, staff recommends approval of the proposal with InSite Amenities for the purchase and installation of the structure. 7 Funding approved in FY 2017 SPDC Operating Budget for BJNCP Improvements $120,000 InSite Proposal - $90,348 BuyBoard purchase satisfies City and State Bid requirements Financial Considerations Funding in the amount of $120,000 was approved in the FY 2017 SPDC Operating Budget for improvements at Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve which includes a permanent shade structure.   Purchases acquired through the Cooperative Purchasing BuyBoard Contract meets State and City purchasing bid requirements. 8 City of Southlake Strategy Map The City of Southlake provides municipal services that support the highest quality of life for our residents, businesses, and visitors. It also addresses the City’s Critical Business Outcomes CB05 to Improve Quality of Life Through Progressive Implementation of Southlake’s Comprehensive Plan Recommendations. 9 Board / Citizen Review May 16, 2017 SPDC recommended (6-0)   June 6, 2017 CC consideration SPDC recommended approval (6-0) May 16, 2017, noting staff to administratively approve the addition of electrical and fans; determine the feasibility and functionality of the fireplace; and administratively approve the repair, extension, or removal of said fireplace.
