Baker, Sr. Director of Planning and Development Services Subject: Work Session Item 5: Discuss the fee schedule for “Existing Commercial Building For Sale/Leasing Signs” Action Requested: City Council to establish a fee for Existing Commercial Building For Sale/Leasing Signs. Background Information: On October 4, 2016 the City Council amended the City's sign ordinance and as part of the motion for approval established a sign permit fee of $100 for each sign. On December 6, 2016 a Work Session to reconsider the fee schedule for this sign type was discussed. At that meeting, City Council established a temporary fee and directed staff to prepare a detailed inventory of the existing commercial building for sale/leasing signs located in the City and present the results of the inventory at their March meeting. The current fee in place is as follows: • Applicants pay a $100 flat fee for a single existing commercial building for sale/leasing sign; • If an applicant has two or more sign locations, they pay a $200 flat fee no matter how many sign locations; • Fee and permit is good for one year from the time of payment – PDS will place a sticker on the sign once payment has been made; • Applicant will need to re-register applicable signage with the City each year Fee Options: Option 1 Keep the fee as it is now currently; applicant pays $100 to register a single sign, or pay a $200 flat fee for two or more signs. (i.e. one sign = $100, two signs = $200, three signs = $200). Option 2 Applicant pays a $100 fee to register each existing commercial building for sale/leasing sign; (i.e. one sign = $100, two signs = $200, three signs = $300, etc.). Option 3 Establish a new fee structure for existing commercial building for sale/leasing signs. Once a fee option is selected, staff will place the City fee schedule on a future City Council agenda to amend so as to include the selected fee for existing commercial building for sale/leasing signs.
