Item 4L Resolution No. 17-006, terms and conditions of a contract for May 6, 2017 election services between the City of Southlake and the Crime Control and Prevention District Item 4L Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers, I am presenting Item 4L, Resolution No. 17-006, to approve the terms and conditions of a contract for May 6, 2017 election services between the City of Southlake and the Southlake Crime Control and Prevention District. 1 Resolution No. 17-006 Approve a contract for May 6, 2017 election services between the City of Southlake and the Southlake CCPD The Southlake Crime Control and Prevention District (the District) was initially authorized by voters in November 1997 for a term of five years. A special election was held in February 2002 for voters to determine if the District should be reauthorized for a period of fifteen years. That proposition passed with the District set to dissolve in 2018. Chapter 363 of the Local Government Code provides that districts may be continued upon approval of voters.   The Board of Directors have discussed the continuation of the District for a number of months and, on February 1, 2017, the Board called a special election to be held on May 6, 2017. At that same meeting, the Board approved a contract for election services between the City of Southlake and the District. Given the City Secretary’s experience with conducting elections, the Board determined it would be preferable to work with the City rather than have the District conduct its own election.   As the District Board members have called this election, the only action requested of the Council is to approve a contract with the Board for the City to administer this election. 2 “Whether the Southlake Crime Control and Prevention District should be continued for 20 years and the crime control and prevention district sales tax should be continued for 20 years.” Ballot Language As specified in Chapter 363.2515 of the Texas Local Government Code, the ballot language will be:   “Whether the Southlake Crime Control and Prevention District should be continued for 20 years and the crime control and prevention district sales tax should be continued for 20 years.” 3 Additional Information Each year the City Secretary’s Office budgets monies to conduct annual municipal elections. This Special Election will be handled in the same manner as is the General Election. The City’s website pages will be updated as additional information becomes available to the City. 4 Questions: Contact Lori Payne 5 Please contact Lori Payne if you have any questions on the election.
