Item 4I SPDC Matching Funds Request Southlake Girls Softball Association Item 4I This item concerns a Southlake Parks Development Corporation Matching Funds request from Southlake Girls Softball Association. 1 Approval of SPDC Matching Funds Request from SGSA Batting Cages Improvements at Bob Jones Park Requested Action Batting Cages The purpose of this item is City Council to consider approval of the SPDC Matching Funds request from Southlake Girls Softball Association to share the costs of improvements to the batting cages at Bob Jones Park. 2 Proposed (Concrete/Artificial Turf) Current 3 Benefits of Project Improvements to Batting Cages provide: All-weather batting cages Extended lifespan of pitching machines due to reduced wear and tear caused by dirt Eliminate need to maintain dirt in cages Approval of request will substantially offset City cost to make needed improvements The request includes replacement of the batting cage dirt with concrete and artificial turf. These improvements will allow the batting cages to be all-weather, reduce wear and tear on the pitching machines by removing the dirt that gets into them, and eliminate the need to maintain the dirt in the cages. Approval of a matching funds request will assist with offsetting capital costs of a project. 4 Criteria Review SPDC Matching Funds Policy: Extent to which the project is consistent with the overall intended use of the City’s parks as per the adopted Southlake 2030 PROS/CF Master Plan Project Evaluation Criteria Overall benefit of the project to Southlake residents Funding available for the project The Parks Board and SPDC’s recommendation to approve this request was based on their consideration of the project meeting these criteria points. 5 Background Information SGSA proposes 100% match of $37,500 cash contribution for batting cages improvements Estimated Total = $75,000 The Matching Funds Request proposes 100% match of $37,500 cash contribution for the batting cages improvements project. The total estimated cost of the project is $75,000 and includes construction of a concrete base and synthetic turf to match existing grade.
