Item 4E Ordinance No. 1167, 1st Reading Alternate Municipal Court Judge Item 4E Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council: Item 4E on your agenda tonight is for the approval of Ordinance No. 1167, to appoint an Alternate Municipal Court Judge. 1 Requested Action Approve an ordinance Appoint an Alternate Municipal Court Judge Authorize the Mayor to execute an agreement The requested action of City Council is to approve an ordinance that appoints an Alternate Municipal Court Judge for a two year term, which would expire on February 1, 2019 and also to authorize the Mayor to execute this agreement. 2 Background Information Gary Lee Hach, Alternate Municipal Court Judge Appointed in 2003 14 years of service Judge Gary Lee Hach is the current Alternate Municipal Court Judge. He was originally appointed in January of 2003 for a two year term. He was then re-appointed six additional times, serving in his current position for fourteen years. Judge Hach has a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1988 and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Southern Methodist University in 1990.  Judge Hach has an active law practice that specializes in civil, construction and real estate litigation in state, federal and also bankruptcy courts. 3 Financial Considerations $10,000 budget $65 per arraignment $250 per court session State and local legal associations Continuing education $10,000 per year is allocated within the Municipal Court budget for additional judicial services. This includes the contracted amounts of $65 per arraignment as well as $250 for each court session. Over the past 7 years, his annual salary has averaged $7,910​. The highest paid year was $9,951 and the lowest paid year at $6,153.  The median is $8,150. In addition to the salary, the City does budget and pay for professional memberships and dues to State and local legal associations, including the Texas State Bar Association.
