Packet Insert Only - Q1 SAC Report Packet Insert - SAC Q1 Report City of Southlake Senior Advisory Commission 1st Quarter Report It has been a very good season for our seniors and the center. Our membership is growing every quarter. In this quarter alone we've added 123 new members (55 of whom are residents), bringing our total to 1102 Active Members. Hard to believe it has been one year since we've moved to our new home at Legends Hall. Here are some of our events and program highlights the members were involved in this quarter. October has always been a very busy month: ■ The State Fair of Texas ■ The 6th Annual Empowering Seniors ■ The seniors'trip to Mid Cities Greek fest ■ Art class started back in session after taking the summer off; our volunteer teacher is a local artist who loves to teach our members different techniques. ■ We celebrated 75th wedding anniversary of Arvil and Doris Lewis who are regulars at Wednesday Bridge. ■ Vegas Casino Night was a hit, over 100 guests joined us as we brought Vegas to the Legends Hall. The event included show girls, live music, catered dinner, comedy magic show, casino games and lots of donated prizes from local businesses. Our special thanks to all the sponsors for their generosity, making this event extraordinary. November offered many in house programs: ■ Educational seminars including health, finance and technology classes ■ Musical entertainment after our Monday luncheon ■ Saw the Blithe at the Theater Arlington ■ Celebrated our spectacular city event, "Home for the Holidays"! December has been fun, we have gotten into the spirit of the season. ■ "The Gift of Christmas"at the Prestonwood Baptist Church—was made more affordable for our members through SSFI sponsorship. ■ The trip to the "Prairie Lights"in Grand Prairie was worthwhile even with one hour wait to get in. Senior Advisory Commission 1St Quarter Report (Oct-Nov-Dec 2016) Packet Insert - SAC Q1 Report ■ Our One Year Anniversary and Holiday Party included over 100 guests. Everyone enjoyed the food, music, the professional Comedy Magic show and of course the ugly Christmas Sweater contest. All these events are made possible with the help of staff and kind volunteers. Starting January 2017 our Newsletter, The Good Life Gazette, will include 3 months of activities. Concerns and questions we've addressed include: • Could we have more of generic comment cards? The "Share your Thoughts"cards have been available at the front desk since Oct. 2016. • Could we have different type of chairs for our exercise classes? Chair options were addressed and almost all preferred what they've been using already. • Could we have the Matter of Balance Classes? The 8 weeks will be offered starting in January 2017. • Could we have History Classes/seminars? We will be offering a monthly session with help from an active member of the Society of Independent Southern Historian and a teaching docent at the Texas Civil War Museum in Ft. Worth, starting in January 2017. • Could we have more one on one Technology sessions? We will be offering a weekly Q & A and monthly classes by Computer science professionals, starting in January 2017. We wish everyone a Happy and prosperous New Year.
