Item 9B Master Sign Plan for Cambria Suites MSP16-007 1 Applicant: Fillmore Hospitality Request: Approval of a Master Sign Plan to allow two (2) upper story attached building signs. Location: 2104 East State Highway 114 MSP16-007 Fillmore Hospitality is requesting approval of a Master Sign Plan for the new Cambria Suites hotel located at 2104 E. State Highway 114, Southlake, TX. The current sign ordinance requires that all upper story signage gain City Council approval through a master sign plan or variance request. 2 Aerial View The new Cambria Suites hotel is located in the Kimball Park development which sits on the north side of the westbound East State Highway 114 frontage road and connects to the east on North Kimball Avenue. 3 Distance Exhibit This aerial slide shows the location of the hotel in relationship to the SH 114 frontage road and N. Kimball Ave. The south elevation at approximately 650 feet from East State Highway 114 frontage road and the east elevation at approximately 480 feet from North Kimball Avenue. 4 Kimball Park Site Plan 5 Proposed Sign Details – South Elevation The proposed sign for the south elevation has a letter height of approximately 51 ½ inches (4 feet 3 ½ inches) for the letter ‘i’ and 48 inches (4 feet) for the remaining letters. The current sign ordinance allows a maximum letter height of 42 inches (3 ½ feet) at this location. The proposed sign is detailed as individual channel cut letters with internal illumination that shows as white at night and the dot above the ‘i’ as red. When not illuminated, the letter color is described as ‘honey’ and the dot for the letter ‘i’ appears grey. The current sign ordinance limits individual channel cut letters to white, ivory, black, grey, beige or similar neutral colors. The total sign area and width are compliant with current sign ordinance regulations. 6 Proposed Sign Details – East Elevation The proposed sign for the east elevation is exactly the same as the proposed sign for the south elevation. However, this location, facing Kimball Avenue, is limited to a maximum letter height of 24 inches (2 feet). *Letter height of approximately 51 ½ inches (4 feet 3 ½ inches) for the letter ‘i’ and 48 inches (4 feet) for the remaining letters. The current sign ordinance allows a maximum letter height of 42 inches (3 ½ feet) at this location. The proposed sign is detailed as individual channel cut letters with internal illumination that shows as white at night and the dot above the ‘i’ as red. This slide shows the details of the upper story signs that were approved. * Cambria proposed letter height of approximately 51 ½ inches (4 feet 3 ½ inches) for the letter ‘i’ and 48 inches (4 feet) for the remaining letters. The height of the sign location on the building is approximately 47 feet. 14 Sign Board The Sign Board approved the two upper story signs as presented with the maximum letter height of 51½ inches, however, recommended the applicant provide City Council with alternative renderings showing what a maximum letter height of 42 inches would look like. The applicant respectfully requests the City Council approve the original proposal.
