Madam Mayor and members of the City Council: The purpose of this item is to approve the purchase of new Police Department radios from DFW Communications.

Necessity
Support for current Police Department radios will end in December 2019
Radios will still function after that point, but will not be repaired or updated.

Purchase includes 75 new portable radios and 8 vehicle mounted radios
All software, batteries, chargers, and shoulder mounted microphones are included
Budgeted within FY 2017 CCPD
and approved at 11/8/16 CCPD meeting
The purchase consists of 75 new portable (hand-held) radios and 8 vehicle mounted radios. All software, batteries, chargers, and shoulder mounted microphones are included. This purchase
is budgeted within the FY 2017 Crime Control & Prevention District Fund

The purchase of new Police radios will put the current model and the best available technology in the hands of officers. This will ensure that the Police Department’s radios receive
support, updates, and repairs as needed. If the purchase is not approved, support for our current radios will end in December of 2019.
