Item 4N Approve the Purchase of Police Department Radios from DFW Communications Item 4N Madam Mayor and members of the City Council: The purpose of this item is to approve the purchase of new Police Department radios from DFW Communications. 1 City of Southlake Strategy Map Critical Business Outcomes CBO1 - Continue to implement Southlake 2030 Plan by focusing on short-term initiatives. This item most heavily ties to C1, achieving the highest standards of safety and security. 2 Necessity Support for current Police Department radios will end in December 2019 Radios will still function after that point, but will not be repaired or updated. Support for the current set of Police Department radios will end in December of 2019. After that point, our current radios will still function, but will not be repaired or updated with new software. 3 New Radio Overview Purchase includes 75 new portable radios and 8 vehicle mounted radios All software, batteries, chargers, and shoulder mounted microphones are included Budgeted within FY 2017 CCPD and approved at 11/8/16 CCPD meeting The purchase consists of 75 new portable (hand-held) radios and 8 vehicle mounted radios. All software, batteries, chargers, and shoulder mounted microphones are included. This purchase is budgeted within the FY 2017 Crime Control & Prevention District Fund 4 Radio Purchase Benefits Benefits Brings the Police radios to the most current model Ensures continued software and maintenance support Budgeted in 2017 due to upcoming CCPD election Impacts if not approved Current radios will no longer be supported at the end 2019 The purchase of new Police radios will put the current model and the best available technology in the hands of officers. This will ensure that the Police Department’s radios receive support, updates, and repairs as needed.
