Certificate of Achievement for Planning Excellence
12 years in a row – Texas APA
Each year APA (American Planning Association), its members, chapters, divisions, and professional institute sponsor National Community Planning Month to raise the visibility of the important
role of planners and planning in communities across the U.S. Planners address both the existing and future needs of a community.
The achievements of planning are celebrated in October
with National Community Planning Month. This year's theme is Civic Engagement
The theme underscores the necessity of engaging the public, elected officials, and key leaders in discussions
that shape the future of our cities.
The Southlake Planning and Development Services consists of four divisions – Each division has a different area of focus
Duties for these divisions
range from reviewing site plans and issuing building permits to maintaining an active database of parcels of land & sanitary sewer mains and writing citations for high grass or abandoned
vehicles
Two major areas of oversight for the Planning division include updating and implementing the City’s comprehensive plan elements (Southlake 2030 and now Southlake 2035) as well
as overseeing all development-related applications – It is worth noting that the City of Southlake received a Comprehensive Planning Award from the Texas Chapter of APA in 2013 for the
Southlake 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
Further, Planning maintains and updates the zoning ordinance in addition to other development-related ordinances such as signage, subdivision, driveway
and more.
