FORUM SUMMARY:
Property Situation:
• Citywide
Development Details:
• Southlake 2030 is being updated, it is now the Southlake 2035 Plan
• Comprehensive Plan is made up of a number of elements — the Economic
Development Plan is one of those elements
• Economic Development and Tourism Plan was first adopted in 2011
• This update will separate Economic Development and Tourism into two distinct
plans
• Economic goal of Southlake is to sustain a strong and healthy economy
• This plan provides a blueprint to ensure that economic development occurs in a
successful manner that is aligned with the goals of the City and the City Council
• City's charter requires that each element be looked at every 5 years
• The economy in DFW area has changed in the past 5 years, and we have much
more information now to develop this plan, such as information from the retail
saturation study conducted in 2014
• Oversight for this plan was through the Community Enhancement and
Development Corporation (CEDC)
• All recommendations in 2030 plans are aligned with the City strategy map
• Retail saturation study identified 6 target industries that the City feels they can
support and would thrive: niche retail; office; medical and healthcare; finance,
insurance and wealth management; information technology and media;
biotechnology and pharmaceuticals
• Plan is divided into 4 main sections
o Section 3 focuses on the Southlake market
■ Recommendations cover a number of areas as related to the
Southlake marketplace
o Section 4 focuses on economic incentives
■ Recommendations deal with facilitating the strategic investment of
public funds to attract and retain quality businesses, to ensure
ongoing monitoring and reporting of projects that have received
incentives, and to maintain dedicated funding to achieve economic
development projects particularly as identified in this plan
o Section 5 focuses on business retention and expansion
■ Recommendations focus on creating opportunities for the City to
learn about concerns and needs of the business
o Section 6 focuses on the citizen and community engagement
■ Promote economic development efforts in the community
• Done through multimedia tools, social media and annual
report, and development of the website that exceeds
industry standards
