Item 4C CITY OF SOUTHLAKE MEMORANDUM August 9, 2016 To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Ken Baker, Senior Director of Planning and Development Services Subject: Item 4Cā€” Ordinance 704-1 Action Requested: Consider 1St reading for proposed amendments to Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended. Background Information: Since the adoption of Sign Ordinance 704-H back in September of 2015, we have seen modern changes in signage and window displays; re- occurring instances of signage violations; a need to clarify and add to the definitions section; and, the addition of illumination, sign type and color standards. Staff has provided specific details regarding all of the proposed changes in the audio PowerPoint presentation provided in the packet. Two of the major changes deal with the following: 1. Attached Signs a. If the sign is proposed as a reversed channel sign (halo lit or back lit), the letter may be any color, however, the back light shall be limited to white or off-white. b. If the sign is proposed as individually mounted channel letters, specific criteria shall apply in regards to letter color as described in Section 7.2, Table 4. 2. Existing Commercial Building For Lease or Sale Ground Sign a. This type sign is determined to be prohibited, OR b. This type sign will be regulated as stated in Section 6, Table 3, Number 10.
