Having done so, I want to express my objection. I object to the proposed resolution for the following reasons: • Impact on Continental traffic: o As a 20-year Southlake resident, I have experienced the uptick in traffic over the years and want to do all things possible to avoid a further increase in traffic, if possible. o More important, given the request for the driveway variance and the nature of the proposed business, I would like to avoid the increase in truck traffic. o Though apparently not on the table, I don't want to inadvertently permit any scenario whereby someone can bring up in the future any initiative to widen Continental (I helped fight one misguided effort to start that process in the late 90s and I believe you were on the side against the proposed widening). • Safety concerns: o Continental is used by buses for many of the Carroll schools; how many more challenges do we want to present to the bus drivers? o The drainage ditch(am sure there must be a nice way to refer to it but...)on each side of the road provides opportunities for mishaps during ingress and egress. • Aesthetics: o A three(3) story building on Continental? • The elevation cannot be disguised or obscured through trees. • I am not sure that Southlake Boulevard has three(3) story buildings fronting that thoroughfare. • Market for the product offering: o I noted from the online video comments from an owner or two of existing storage haps•J/mail.google.com/mailh10/?i=2&ik=cc737a625d&view=pt&seardpirdxs dIF154bIb7051a42d91&sim1=154bIb7051a42d91 1/2 5117/2016 Ci.soutiiaketx.us Mail-Fwd:City Cocrnil Meeting May 17,2016;Agenda Item 6.D.:Resdution ZA16-013 properties, so started to look at the number of facilities in the area. I am thankful to have a Mayor and Council that listen to citizens and look out for what the citizens want and what would benefit the city. I have just heard that there is a proposed public storage facility on Continental that will be up on the agenda tonight. I'd like to voice my opinion AGAINST this facility. I really don't believe that public storage facilities present the image that Southlake stands for and adding more to the city would not be in our best interest. I think what we have is adequate and there are also tons of other storage facility options in surrounding areas. Because of this, a facility is not needed. In addition to not being needed, this storage facility would not only increase traffic on Continental, which would be unsafe for kids and adults alike, it also runs a great risk of increasing crime in the area. Our police force does a wonderful job of working to keep us safe but, with the increase of car and home burglaries in recent months, we don't need to add a facility that runs the risk of increasing it further. Last, public storage facilities are an eyesore on their own. A three story public storage building would be even more of an eyesore which would potentially cause the home values to decrease in that area and would definitely take away from the beauty of our city. Thank you, again, for all you do. httpsJ/mail.google.can/mail/chi=?&ik=cc737a625d&view=pf8seardwinbooc8dh=154c051c454b42298sim1=154c051c.454b4229 1/2 5/17/2016 Cisoulhlake.bc.us Mail-FW:Proposed Pudic Storage Facility - Lauren Thome 1201 San Augustine Court htfpsJ/mail.google.can/mail/uKri i=2&ik=cc737a825d&view=pt&searctFirtod p154c051c454b42298sim1=154c051c454b4229 2/2 5/17/2016 Ci.swltiake bc.us Mail-FW:Storage Facility©Crooked Lane and Continental Blvd (al) escnauniLAKEor Holly Blake<hblake@ci.southlake.tx.us> FW: Storage Facility @ Crooked Lane and Continental Blvd. 1 message Lori Payne <Ipayne@ci.southlake.tx.us> Tue, May 17, 2016 at 11:23 AM To: Laura Hill <mayor-int@ci.southlake.tx.us> Cc: Ken Baker<kbaker@ci.southlake.tx.us>, Holly Blake<hblake@ci.southlake.tx.us> FromSent: Sam Timothy 17, 2[mato 1M Sent: Tuesday, May 17, 201 To: mayor@ci.southlake.tx.us Subject: Storage Fadlity @ Crooked Lane and Continental Blvd. Laura, I am normally pretty open to progress and development. • Safety concerns: o Continental is used by buses for many of the Carroll schools; how many more challenges do we want to present to the bus drivers? o The drainage ditch(am sure there must be a nice way to refer to it but...) on each side of the road provides opportunities for mishaps during ingress and egress. • Aesthetics: o A three(3) story building on Continental? • The elevation cannot be disguised or obscured through trees. • I am not sure that Southlake Boulevard has three(3) story buildings fronting that thoroughfare. • Market for the product offering: o I noted from the online video comments from an owner or two of existing storage helps//mail.google.com/mal/ulMti=28ik=cc737a625d&view=ptBsearct=inbax8rh=151131)7051a42d918sim1=154bb7051a42d91 1/2 5/17/2016 Ci.sauthlake.tx.us Mail-Fwd:City Council Meeting May 17,2016;Agenda Item 6.0.:Resdution ZA16-013 properties, so started to look at the number of facilities in the area. How many of anything does one community need? • Absence of proven track record of the developer: o While reviewing the web-site of The Jenkins Organization (http://www.jenkinsorg.com/index.html), I was unable to fmd a track record of existing and operational upscale development. o To the contrary, the pictures of existing operational facilities on their website show me a different quality. See http://www.jenkinsorg.com/development.html and http://www.jenkinsorg.com/acquisitions.html so you can consider what they have up and running today. o I understand that Jenkins is in the process of developing 15 properties in Texas that are portrayed as "first class, state of the art" (see the Jenkins press release of March 22, 2016 at http://wwwprweb.com/releases/2016/03/prweb13283965.htm); but this shows they are engaged in a process. I've recently been informed of a proposal for a new public storage facility that would be built on Continental Blvd. I would like to express my major concerns regarding this building. The construction that's currently happening around Davis Blvd is already causing major traffic issues on Continental, and adding the public storage facility would create further traffic. On top of that, the site of the facility isn't meant to handle large trucks, meaning that these trucks would have to park on Continental to unload, causing further traffic. I drive to school and work by taking Continental every day, and I can assure you this would be a massive issue for myself and many others. From what I have heard, the building of this storage facility is being put to a vote tonight, and I hope that you take my concerns into consideration. Note that at P&Z the applicant said that they will average 30 cars per day (yet they will be twice the size) and will not have semis as they'll cater to"Suburban driving Southlake Moms." Seriously?!? How will Continental handle the cars, semis, and kids playing at the Lacrosse Fields???? IN SUMMARY: *There will be more traffic on Continental which is already a busy road. This will be UNSAFE to our kids and those at the lacrosse fields. *The site is not able to handle large van-liner trucks. They cannot get in and out and will have to park on Continental to unload or load or back into the facility which will further cause traffic issues and accidents. *It's a 3 story building which will be a tremendous eyesore on a 2 lane residential road, and we do not even have 3 story buildings on Southlake Blvd where we have 6 or more lanes *Adding the 142,000 sq. ft. latest public storage in Southlake has created a surplus of storage (passed through council 2 weeks ago). WE ARE OVERBUILT by 62% in the public storage capacity *Storage facilities bring an increase of thefts to this residential neighborhood.
