Item 4E Approve the display of “Aviation in North Texas” art exhibit proposed by the Southlake Historical Society Item 4E Honorable Mayor and members of the City Council, my name is Cassie Tucker, and I’m here to present you Item 4E. This item will consider approval of the “Aviation in North Texas” art exhibit proposed by the Southlake Historical Society. 1 City Council approval of: “Aviation in North Texas” Art Exhibit Southlake Town Hall July 9 – August 22, 2016 Requested Action Staff is seeking City Council approval of the proposal and permit request for the exhibit to be displayed in the Town Hall Lobby, July 9 – August 22, 2016. 2 Background Information The Proposal features 18 panels and 2 display cases. Exhibit complies with the Public Art Display and/or Performance Policy The Proposal features 18 panels and 2 display cases. The panels present a North-Texas aviation timeline that begins in 1911 and highlights aircraft manufacturing, military, commercial and general aviation throughout the area. In addition to the panels, aviation memorabilia would be displayed in 2 display cases. Southlake Arts Council members and staff will be onsite on the day of installation to ensure the exhibit is appropriately displayed in the space. The number of panels may be reduced on the day of installation as appropriate. The exhibit complies with the Public Art Display and/or Performance Policy, and the artwork will not exceed 30% of the lobby floor space. The panels and display cases will be displayed in between the pillars throughout the lobby. A layout has been included in your packet memo. The exhibit would not obstruct the entrances into the lobby, Council Chambers or Municipal Court, nor will it impede the traffic flow, or the sight line between the security desk and the Council Chambers. 3 Requires no additional funding Financial Considerations Approval of the permit will require no additional funding by the City. 4 City of Southlake Strategy Map The City of Southlake provides municipal services that support the highest quality of life for our residents, businesses, and visitors. The proposal also addresses the corporate objectives of promoting opportunities for partnerships and volunteer involvement and enhancing the sense of community by providing excellent customer service and citizen engagement opportunities. 5 Southlake Arts Council recommendation to approve (5-0-1) the Southlake Historical Society Aviation Exhibit proposal and permit: March 22, 2016 City Council consideration of the Exhibit proposal and permit: April 19, 2016 Citizen Input / Board Review The Southlake Arts Council recommended approval (5-0-1) of the permit for the exhibit at their meeting on March 22, 2016. Southlake Arts Council member Tamara McMillan abstained from the vote since she is a member of the Southlake Historical Society.
