For use of Runway 31 L. DFW worked with FAA and American Airlines to ensure departure headings conform to a single heading consistent with the 1988 settlement agreement. • Adherence to Runway Centerline: Collaboration with FAA to seek ways to keep aircraft on extended centerline —short and long term solutions • Outreach: DFW sends closure notifications to local cities as soon as the closures are known and/or a minimum of five days prior to the closure, when possible. DFW also sends additional email updates to communities during episodic north flow conditions requiring use of Runway 31 L. You will receive a Certificate of Aircraft Registration/Proof of Ownership that will include a unique identification number which must be marked on the aircraft. • Drone Safety: • Fly below 400 feet altitude • Keep your unmanned aircraft in site at all times. o • Remain well clear of and do not interfere with manned aircraft • Don't fly within 5 miles of an airport unless you contact the airport and the control tower before flying. • Don't fly near people or stadiums • Don't fly an aircraft that weighs more than 55 pounds • Don't be careless or reckless with you unmanned aircraft— you could be fined for endangering people or other aircraft. • For more information: • The FAA's Unmanned Aircraft Systems page: https://www.faa.qov/uas/ • The FAA's page regarding hobbyist/model aircraft usage: https://www.faa.gov/uaslmodel aircraft/ • Know Before You Fly.org: http://knowbeforevoufly.orq nCtA/ VI YY DFW Airport and FAA NextGen A Briefing for the Southlake City Council James M. ANINFort Airfield Rehabillineri and Maintenance DFW's airfield is over 40 years old. Just as you have to continually work to maintain your home, DFW must continually maintain its airfield to ensure safe aircraft operations. This responsibility requires short and long term runway closures. Use of Runway 31 L for Jet Departures: DFW has taken proactive steps to minimize the use of Runway 31L for jet departures and to mitigate departures when the runway is needed: • Short term runway closures for minor maintenance and mowing is limited to south flow when practicable. • DFW collaborated with FAA to ensure jet departures conform to the 1988 agreement to use a single departure heading. Effective October 2015, FAA revised procedures to conform to the agreement by utilizing only a single straight out departure heading. • There is currently no NextGen departure option from Runway 31L. Aircraft fly a heading assigned by FAA and are subject to wind drift. The long term solution is through FAA's NextGen program which will provide greater precision and predictability; however a NextGen solution takes time given limited FAA funding, resources, and national priorities. DFW filed a request with the FAA in May 2015 for a NextGen procedure for departures on Runway 31L, currently under review by FAA. • In the interim, DFW, FAA and American developed a wind mitigation procedure in an effort to keep aircraft closer to the extended centerline. FAA compensates for wind in departure instructions to pilots in an effort to keep aircraft from wind drifting (though wind is not constant). • DFW staff actively monitor 31L jet departures to ensure aircraft are tracking the extended centerline (minimize turns before five miles, mitigate for wind drift as practicable). • Outreach regarding runway closures: DFW notifies local communities via emails, phone calls and DFW's website (https://www.dfwairport.com/inthecommunity/aircraft noise.php). r-o - r. ...,1;,,,>----Aroi.--..„3-',.-2-,,‘ \-,,,,,s \AT' ir- . ti ,. .# . -.." _4_ ____---.-3--- ' '7,,,-\\,\ \ ! :r -i ''''-'74- , -*/' F4.- ..-Tp01,7---04-Okk,, NN :- , , \\1 , : ,,..
