Item 4D Approve name for the Library at Legends Hall Item 4D Honorable Mayor and members of the City Council, this item will consider a name for the Library in Legends Hall at The Marq Southlake. 1 Requested Action City Council approval of the name: “Dick McCauley Library” for the Library in Legends Hall at The Marq Southlake Staff is seeking City Council approval of the Senior Advisory Commission’s recommendation to name the new Library in Legends Hall the “Dick McCauley Library.” 2 SAC recommends the new Senior Activity Center Library at The Marq be named in honor of the late Dick McCauley Mr. McCauley made substantial and exceptional contributions to benefit Southlake seniors through voluntary service Name in honor of Mr. McCauley complies with guidelines in City’s “Naming and Renaming Procedures.” Background The Senior Advisory Commission approved (5-0) at their January 12, 2016 meeting, a recommendation to City Council to name the new library in honor of Dick McCauley. Mr. McCauley has made many contributions to help seniors in Southlake and provided leadership and support in preparation for the new Senior Activity Center. A few of his endeavors include: Service on the Senior Advisory Commission from 2008 until his death in April 2014; and was a former chairman of the Commission Set up the non-profit organization, Southlake Senior Funding, Incorporated, that continues to provide financial sponsorships through fundraising efforts for many of the senior programs and events Worked with sponsors and the City to acquire the 22-seat bus used for senior field trips Worked tirelessly to advance the construction of the new senior center Naming the library in honor of Mr. McCauley is in line with City’s Naming & Renaming Procedures document 3 For any group or individual who has made exceptional contributions to the City In honor of a deceased local, state, national figure(s) Shall be a waiting period of one or more years prior to the naming in honor of deceased figure Components of facility may be given name different than facility. Components not limited to…structures and meeting rooms.
